Psychiatrist
The Psychiatrist as a member of the Behavioral Health care team provides direct care to referred pediatric, adult, and/or geriatric patients and may be required to demonstrate age-specific competency, depending upon clinical assignment and the population served, in a variety of clinical settings throughout the health center. The Psychiatrist is responsible for providing quality patient care in accordance with departmental policies and procedures. The Psychiatrist reports to the Medical Director of Behavioral Health or designee.
The Psychiatrist conducts psychiatric/psychopharmacological evaluations for referred adults, children and adolescents, and/or older adults, and determines which patients are best served in a primary care, specialty behavioral health, or community behavioral health setting. The Psychiatrist provides expert consultation to the medical and behavioral health staff in the management of psychiatric disorders in primary care. In certain situations and when appropriate, the Psychiatrist may follow the patient longitudinally. Education of the medical providers, behavioral health providers, PMHNP residents and students as well as supervision of PMHNP residents and students and other Psychiatrists are components of the position. Additionally, home-based overnight and weekend call coverage for emergency assessment and triage and/or prescription coverage to support the Administrator on Call is a component of the position. The position may involve both telehealth and in-person work. NeighborHealth is regarded as an underserved area for the NHSC scholarship program.
