Job Information Job Title: Registered Nurse – CCU/ED Float Pool (Rookie Incentive $15k) Location: VMC Main Campus, Renton, WA | Employment Type: Full Time, FTE 0.9, Shift: Nights | Salary Range: Minimum $46.94 – Maximum $85.76 per hour (DOE) Req: 2026-0497 | Department: CCU/ED Float Pool | Category: Nursing Job Description Registered nurses in the CCU/ED Float Pool provide safe, quality patient care to a rotating group of patients for a designated time frame, utilizing the nursing process as the basis for clinical practice. Prerequisites BSN preferred. Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Washington. Successful completion of a graduate nurse residency program orientation or six months’ experience as a registered nurse. AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers required. For emergency/critical care units: ACLS & PALS within three months of hire; NIHSS certification within three months of hire; TNCC within 12 months of hire; ENPC within 12 months of hire. One year of experience as a registered nurse in emergency or critical care preferred. Physical and Mental Demands Must be able to perform safe patient handling as defined by VMC’s Safe Patient Handling guidelines – lift from floor to overhead, carry up to 40 lbs, use patient lifting equipment, stoop, bend, reach, crouch, squat, stand, and walk for extended periods. Corrected vision, hearing, and color discrimination required. Essential Responsibilities and Competencies Assesses, guides, directs, and facilitates workflow on the unit; assumes charge nurse role when necessary. Assigns staff in accordance with patient acuity, continuity of care, and staffing needs. Mentors staff, float, and agency personnel on policies, procedures, and annual goals. Integrates new staff and agency personnel into the unit culture. Acts as a leader and role model for clinical staff. Provides clinical resources, teaches safe use of patient care equipment. Identifies resource RN for LPN, PCA, and MST as needed. Monitors and evaluates nursing care via observation, consultation, and rounds. Assess unit/environmental safety during rounds; reports and corrects deficiencies. Maintains awareness of Joint Commission standards, state codes, and practice acts; monitors documentation compliance. Demonstrates excellent customer service; responds to patient/family concerns. Reports significant events per policy and activates chain of command. Provides input into staff performance appraisals. Ensures adequate coverage for breaks and maintains fiscal responsibility. Schedules staffing for follow‑up shifts using clinical judgment. Communicates with bed placement and clinical resources for expedited placements.
