About the Position
The Louisiana Organization for Refugees and Immigrants (LORI) is looking for experienced and enthusiastic canvassers to join our fall 2026 nonpartisan voter engagement campaign. Over two elections, the November 3 general election and the December 12 runoff, you will knock doors, make calls, hold signs, recruit volunteers, and help voters make their plan to vote. Our primary focus is immigrant and refugee communities, and we also reach other hard-to-reach voters that campaigns overlook. Multicultural and multilingual canvassers are strongly preferred.

Pay $22 per hour, all hours must be documented, pay frequency is bi-weekly (every other week) with LORI’s regularly payroll schedule

Hours Canvassers opportunity 7 days a week, including evenings and weekends

Term Immediate openings, continuing through the December 12 runoff; final timesheet and data turnover by December 16, 2026

WHAT YOU WILL DO

▪ Door knocking. Hold respectful conversations with voters in your assigned turf; share when, where, and how to vote, ID rules, early voting, and voters’ rights; help each eligible voter make a written plan to vote; sign voters up for LORI’s shuttle rides; and explain the ten constitutional amendments with LORI’s plain-language guide, without recommending a vote.

▪ Phone banking. Call voters from LORI’s lists in the languages you speak, using LORI’s nonpartisan script, with reminder calls during early voting and before each election.

▪ Outreach and volunteers . Represent LORI at churches, mosques, associations, campuses, and events; invite voters and family members into LORI’s community; and recruit volunteers for phone banks, shuttle days, and election days.

▪ Visibility. Hold “Vote” and early-voting reminder signs at major intersections, markets, churches, mosques, and community gathering places during peak hours.

▪ Data Record every door, call, pledge, ride request, and volunteer the same day on the LORI tablet, and submit a short weekly report with your invoice.

WHAT A TYPICAL WEEK LOOKS LIKE

Targets are based on typical averages for nonpartisan field programs: about 20 to 25 doors per hour with 1 in 4 answering, and about 35 to 40 calls per hour with 1 in 6 answering. For a 20-hour week:

Door knocking 10 hours: about 200 to 250 doors attempted, 50 to 60 conversations, 25 to 30 written vote plans

Phone banking 5 hours: about 175 to 200 calls, 30 to 35 conversations, 15 to 20 vote plans or reminders confirmed

Visibility and outreach 3 hours: two sign-holding shifts at peak times, one community event, 2 to 3 volunteers recruited

Data and check-in 2 hours: same-day data entry, weekly report, and a 20-minute check-in with the organizer

Election weeks run higher; your organizer will share the weekly cap and adjust targets to your turf.

KEY DATES

Early voting: October 20 to 27 (closed Sunday, October 25), 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Election Day: Tuesday, November 3, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Runoff registration deadlines: November 12 (in person or by mail) and November 21 (online)

Runoff early voting: November 28 to December 5 (closed Sunday, November 29)

Runoff Election Day: Saturday, December 12, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

▪ Experienced, enthusiastic canvassers, organizers, phone bankers, or community leaders. Multicultural and multilingual candidates are strongly preferred; LORI participants and alumni mentors are encouraged to apply.

▪ Fluency in English and at least one community language, such as Spanish, Arabic, French, Haitian Creole, Swahili, Kinyarwanda, Vietnamese, Dari, or Pashto, is strongly preferred.

▪ Cultural competence and experience with refugee and immigrant communities; strong listening skills; comfortable adapting a script to each person.

▪ A working phone and reliable transportation for the full term (driver’s license preferred; exceptions considered). LORI provides a tablet for data entry.

▪ Able to walk outdoors for extended periods; at least 18 years old and authorized to work in the United States.

LORI is a 501(c)(3). While doing this work you may not support or oppose any candidate or party, carry campaign materials, or advise anyone how to vote on an amendment. Only U.S. citizens may vote; you will never pressure anyone who is not a citizen to register or vote.
