Assistant Director, Addiction Recovery Support Center

Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated and energetic Assistant Director to join our leadership team. The ideal candidate is a proactive leader in long-term recovery from a substance use disorder who is passionate about helping others. This role is crucial for overseeing our diverse programs, supporting our dedicated team of peer staff, and driving the mission of our organization forward. A background in counseling or other therapeutic modalities is a significant plus but not a substitute for lived recovery experience. This position requires resilience, creativity, and the ability to thrive in a rapidly evolving environment.

 

Key Responsibilities

Program Oversight & Development:

Manage the day-to-day operations of multiple recovery support programs, including peer coaching, support groups, wellness activities, youth and family tree, and community outreach events. Evaluate program effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement and expansion to meet the needs of our rural community. Ensure all programs are delivered with fidelity to our peer-led, person-centered model.

Staff Supervision & Support:

  • Provide direct supervision, mentorship, and support to a team of Peer Recovery Specialists and volunteers.

  • Foster a collaborative, positive, and high-performance work culture grounded in recovery principles.

  • Assist in the hiring, onboarding, and ongoing professional development of staff.

Community Engagement & Outreach:

  1. Serve as a key representative of the organization, building and maintaining strong relationships with community partners, local government, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders.
  2. Develop and implement outreach strategies to increase awareness of our services and reduce stigma in the community.
  3. Represent the organization at local meetings, events, and conferences.
  4. Administrative & Operational Duties:
  5. Assist the Executive Director/CEO with strategic planning, grant reporting, and budget management.
  6. Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and organizational policies.
  7. Oversee data collection and reporting to track program outcomes and participant progress.

 

Qualifications & Skills

  • Lived Experience: Must be an individual in long-term recovery from a substance use disorder. This is a non-negotiable requirement as our model is peer-led.

Experience:

  1. A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in the recovery, social services, or non-profit field.
  2. Demonstrated experience in a supervisory or program management role is strongly preferred.
  3. Education: Certified Addiction Recovery Empowerment Specialist (will train). A degree in social work, psychology, public health, non-profit management, or a related field is preferred. Relevant experience may be substituted for formal education.
  4. Therapeutic Background (Preferred): Experience or training in counseling, social work, or other therapeutic modalities is highly desirable.

Skills:

  1. Exceptional leadership and team-building skills.
  2. Strong organizational and project management abilities, with a knack for juggling multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.
  3. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to connect with diverse populations.
  4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data management systems.
  5. Understanding of the unique challenges and strengths of a rural community.
