Inspector I

What You'll Do Observe, document, and verify work in progress to ensure compliance with contract documents and plans. Confirm procedures are followed and materials conform to specifications. Utilize engineering inspection practices to perform rudimentary calculations and measurements of completed work. Maintain Inspector’s daily report of assigned work activities, contractor labor and equipment, quantities of material received and verified. Assist with on‑site material testing and produce as‑constructed sketches as required. Perform other duties as assigned. What You'll Need High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent. One year of construction experience. All required jurisdictional certificates and state requirements. What You'll Bring Prepare daily work reports including quantities for payment, contractor personnel and equipment utilized. Perform quality assurance testing and sampling per specifications. Keep superiors advised of problem areas. Ensure work conforms to plans and specifications. Provide effective communication regarding issues, objectives, and initiatives related to performance and compliance. What We Prefer Three years of construction‑related experience. Valid Driver’s License. Proficient use of Microsoft Word and Excel. Experience working on VDOT projects; prior experience in the Hampton Roads District preferred. Working knowledge of VDOT Road and Bridge Specifications, Road and Bridge Standards, Construction Manual, and Inspector Manual. Ability to pass background check as required by client.
