Role Description The Certified Athletic Trainer is a contracted position, on-site role based in the San Francisco Bay Area, serving student-athletes within Piedmont Unified School District. This role is responsible for providing comprehensive athletic training services, including on-field coverage for practices and games, evaluation and management of sports-related injuries, and implementation of injury prevention programs. Day-to-day tasks include coordinating pre-participation screenings, maintaining accurate medical and treatment records, designing and supervising rehabilitation and return-to-play plans, and collaborating with coaches, school administrators, and healthcare providers. The Certified Athletic Trainer will also educate students and staff on safe training techniques, proper conditioning, and health and wellness practices, while ensuring compliance with district policies, state regulations, and professional standards. Qualifications Demonstrated expertise in Athletic Training and Injury Prevention to support safe participation in school sports programs. Skills in Strength & Conditioning and Prevention to design and oversee conditioning and fitness programs that reduce injury risk. Experience in Rehabilitation to manage post-injury care, guide recovery, and develop individualized return-to-play protocols. Current Board of Certification (BOC) certification as an Athletic Trainer and eligibility for or possession of appropriate state licensure/registration. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Athletic Training or a related field from an accredited institution. Knowledge of sports medicine best practices, emergency care procedures, and relevant legal and ethical considerations in school athletics. Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with students, families, coaches, administrators, and healthcare professionals. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, to provide coverage for practices, competitions, and school events.
