Job Overview Brown University Athletics and Recreation is seeking a part‑time assistant fencing coach specializing in saber. The position is located in Providence, Rhode Island, and is part of the Ivy League intercollegiate athletics program with 38 varsity teams and about 1,000 athletes. The assistant coach will support the Head Coach in overseeing practices and competitions, training players, developing game strategies, recruiting potential student‑athletes, and managing occasional armory responsibilities. Responsibilities Assist the Head Fencing Coach in organizing, preparing, and conducting team practices, training, and competitions. Support the Head Coach in training players, developing game strategies, and ensuring a safe training and competitive environment. Assist in identifying and recruiting prospective student‑athletes for the intercollegiate women’s fencing program, in accordance with NCAA rules, regulations, guidelines, and standards. Provide guidance and mentorship to student athletes and support the coordination and administration of the program as required. Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of 2 years of coaching experience at the club or intercollegiate level, with a specialty in coaching saber required. Job Competencies Demonstrated competitive coaching skills in saber. Ability to recruit within NCAA and Ivy League rules. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication, and computer skills. Demonstrated ability to work with and relate well to students. Excellent sport‑specific technical, tactical, and strategic knowledge. Basic proficiency in Excel, Word, internet, and email capabilities. Social media experience helpful. Familiarity with ARMS, Teamworks, or similar preferred. Prior experience with video editing software helpful.Commitment to the student‑athlete, passion for the game, and ability to coach and motivate.
