Under the direction of the Associate Director (Chief Psychologist), Office of Employee Wellness (OEW), the Correctional Sergeant functions as a lead and is responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, administration, and evaluation of statewide employee wellness programs and initiatives for California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) and California Correctional Health Care Services (CCHCS) employees and their families. The incumbent's experience, knowledge and understanding of the correctional law enforcement environment and CDCR institution operations will facilitate the creation, implementation, metrics and maintenance of wellness programs. The incumbent must be able to build and maintain rapport with correctional staff in order to encourage their utilization of the wellness programs and offer internal insight into the complexity and sensitivity of issues facing correctional staff and their families. The incumbent will utilize their correctional knowledge and expertise to evaluate the programs, provide feedback and recommend changes. Must work effectively under stressful conditions, work effectively and cooperatively under the pressure of short leave time; work weekends, holidays, extended and rotating shift (day/night). Statewide travel on short notice to and from various CDCR facilities and offices may be required for extended periods of time. This position has supervisory responsibility for supervisory and rank and file custody incumbents. The position also provides professional input from a correctional perspective to the statewide Peer Support Program (PSP).

The California Department of Corrections Rehabilitation (CDCR) Headquarters has implemented a new automated system to streamline the hiring process. The Human Resources Technology System (HRTS) is an intuitive, user-friendly system that provides the applicant access to real-time updates throughout the hiring process. Working Conditions


The position(s) is eligible for hybrid telework, in accordance with the Statewide Telework Policy and will be required to report to the office as needed/required. The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.

Regular and consistent attendance is critical to the successful performance of this position. You must be regularly available and willing to work the hours necessary to meet business needs.

This is a limited term position which may be extended.
