The Critical Care Unit at the Hospital of Central Connecticut is a 24-bed unit, all comprised of private rooms. The staff includes Registered Nurses, Nurse Assistants, Administrative Support Staff, with attending Physicians and Mid-level providers available 24-7. Our unit is equipped with the highest levels of technology including Electronic Patient Records. Our staff works in collaborative environments with strong interdisciplinary teams in a patient centered care model in a richly diverse work space.Job Summary: Under the general direction of Nursing Leadership and in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team, the Registered Nurse utilizes evidence-based practices in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act, and policies and procedures of the hospital. This position develops a plan of care for complex, multi-varianced population of patients, which includes standards of practice to meet the physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and educational needs of the patient and family.Qualifications:Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. Associate's degree in Nursing. Successful completion of nurse residency, if applicable.Experience: One year of experience with a minimum of 1000 hours of clinical experience as a licensed registered nurse. Experience of IV/line placement required. ACLS certified. 1 - 3 yr CCU experience required/med-surgical experience GNR consideredLicensure, Certification, Registration: Registered Nurse, State of CT. Certified BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA). Additional certifications may be required in specific specialtiesLanguage Skills: Must be able to effectively communicate information in English.Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements:Applies the principles and practices of nursing.Membership in a professional nursing organization preferred.Demonstrated ability to develop, deliver and evaluate patient care.Cares for a full patient assignment with expanding scope of responsibilities over time.Knowledge of high reliability.Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Uses communication skills to foster a healthy work environment and facilitate positive patient outcomes and experience.Demonstrates cultural sensitivity in all interactions with patients/families and co-workers.Strong knowledge of and demonstrated skills in providing care for age specific populations.Strong ability to work as part of a collaborative team.Ability to act as a preceptor and charge nurse as needed.Self-directed in clinical responsibilities.Ability to manage and organize multiple clinical priorities.Strong computer skills and use of industry applications/programs.
