Position Overview University Preparatory Charter School for Young Men seeks a qualified Special Education Teacher for the 20262027 school year. The Special Education Teacher is responsible for providing specially designed instruction to students with disabilities in accordance with each students Individualized Education Program (IEP), and in compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Article 89 of New York State Education Law, and applicable regulations of the New York State Education Department (NYSED). The teacher will ensure that all mandated services, accommodations, and modifications are implemented with fidelity and that student progress toward annual goals is monitored and reported as required. Key Responsibilities Provide specially designed instruction aligned with New York State Learning Standards and each students IEPImplement IEP mandates, including accommodations, modifications, annual goals, and related service coordinationEnsure compliance with all federal and state special education laws and regulations, including IDEA and NYSED Part 200 regulationsDeliver services across the continuum of special education settings (e.g., Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT), resource room, consultant teacher services), as assignedCollaborate with general education teachers to ensure access to grade-level curriculum in the least restrictive environment (LRE)Develop, maintain, and update IEP documentation in accordance with compliance timelines and procedural requirementsMonitor student progress toward IEP goals using data-driven methods and maintain accurate recordsParticipate in Committee on Special Education (CSE) meetings and contribute to IEP development and reviewAdminister and implement testing accommodations in accordance with IEPs and state assessment guidelinesUtilize evidence-based instructional strategies and differentiated instruction to meet diverse learning needsMaintain a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment that supports positive student behaviorCommunicate regularly with families regarding student progress and program implementationCollaborate with related service providers, administrators, and support staffParticipate in professional development and staff meetings as requiredPerform additional duties as assigned by school leadership Qualifications Required: Bachelors degree from an accredited college or universityEligibility for New York State Initial or Professional Certification in Special Education (Students with Disabilities), Grades 612 or appropriate grade band (must be actively pursued if not yet obtained)Demonstrated knowledge of IDEA, Article 89, and NYSED Part 200 regulationsUnderstanding of IEP development, implementation, and progress monitoring Preferred: Valid New York State certification in Special Education (Students with Disabilities) with content area specializationMasters degree in Special Education or related fieldPrior experience providing special education services in grades 612Experience in urban or charter school settings with diverse student populations Skills & Attributes Commitment to educational equity and culturally responsive-sustaining practicesAbility to implement specially designed instruction and differentiate for diverse learnersStrong knowledge of compliance requirements and documentation practicesEffective collaboration with general education teachers and multidisciplinary teamsStrong classroom management and organizational skillsClear and professional communication with students, families, and staffAbility to analyze student data to inform instruction and interventionsReflective practitioner committed to continuous professional growth Compensation & Benefits Salary Range: $48,000 $53,000 (based on experience and qualifications) Benefits Include: Health, dental, and vision insuranceLife insurancePaid time off403(b) retirement planNew York State Teacher Retirement System (NYSTRS)Professional development supportTuition reimbursement
