General Accountant

POSITION SUMMARY: Assists with daily transactional processing of all aspects of the Tribal business. Plays an integral part in the monthly and year-end closing and reporting processes. Responds to questions from General Ledger/Fixed Assets Manager, Chief Financial Officer, and tribal staff regarding general ledger entries or reports.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for ensuring that assigned general ledger accounts are reconciled accurately and in a timely manner. Responsible for ensuring all relevant entries, adjustments, and reconciliations are completed to facilitate the month-end and year-end closing of the books in a timely manner. Assists Tribal employees with general ledger questions and reports. Assists General Ledger/Fixed Assets Manager as requested. Performs Finance-related projects as assigned, which may involve research, analysis, evaluation and/or formulating recommendations. Train and assist with monthly Tribal member per capita payment processing. Assist with administration and collections relative to Tribe’s Debt Collection Offset Policy. Assist with inquiries from Tribal members. Attend trainings and meetings as required. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have a BA/BS degree in Accounting or Finance and 2 years accounting experience including GL experience OR 5 years of experience as a full charge bookkeeper including GL accounting, bank, and other reconciliation processes. Accounting experience must be within the last 10 years. Must have computer experience with intermediate knowledge in Microsoft Word and Excel. Must have experience with computerized accounting applications. Must pass a thorough criminal history background check.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
BA/BS degree in Accounting or Finance. Significant involvement in the preparation of financial statements. Working knowledge of PeopleSoft General Ledger module and PeopleSoft Query function.
