Locums Psychiatry Opportunity - Dallas, Texas Position Snapshot

Specialty: Psychiatry - Emergency Psychiatry Location: Dallas, Texas Start Date: October 5, 2026 Schedule: 7:00 PM-7:00 AM Availability: Any 2 nights per week, Tuesday-Saturday Call: None Coverage: 100% onsite EMR: Epic

Clinical Setting

This is an Emergency Psychiatry opportunity within an acute care hospital setting, focused primarily on adult psychiatric patients.

Patient Population

Primarily adults
Infrequent pediatric psychiatric consultations in the medical ER

Patient Volume

Psychiatric ER

Up to approximately 10 patients per provider per shift

Psychiatric Consult Team

Average of 5-6 patients per 12-hour shift
Consults may take place in the medical ER and psychiatric intake area

Clinical Responsibilities

The physician will be responsible for:

Initial and follow-up psychiatric evaluations
Developing and communicating treatment recommendations
Collaboration with a multidisciplinary care team
Ordering medications and other treatments as indicated
Physician-to-physician communication for patient transfers
Consultation with other medical services as needed
Completion of legal documentation for involuntary psychiatric hospitalization
Physician-only responsibilities for APPs, including restraint orders and face-to-face examinations
Physician signatures on involuntary hospitalization applications
Admission of appropriate patients to psychiatric observation

Schedule & Coverage Highlights

12-hour overnight shifts
7:00 PM-7:00 AM
Any 2 nights Tuesday-Saturday
No call requirement
Provider remains onsite
Predictable overnight coverage
Average consult volume of 5-6 patients per 12-hour shift
