Registered Nuclear Medicine Technologist

Overview

Performs nuclear medicine imaging studies in accordance with physician orders and departmental guidelines. Prepares and transports patients as necessary. Prepares imaging equipment, room, and images, as need for interpretation. Verifies and completes studies in RIS and PACS. Maintains Quality Control on Equipment as Instructed.

Responsibilities

• Prepare radioactive isotopes for administration to patients.

• Fill hypodermic syringes with specified amounts of isotopes and tagging components.

• Observe strict precautions in handling isotopes to safeguard against overexposure to radiation.

• Follow recommended guidelines of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) A.L.A.R.A. program.

• Operate gamma cameras and related computer systems.

• Maintain records of tests conducted, test results, and the use and disposition of isotopes.

• Follow the hospital exposure control plans for bloodborne and airborne pathogens.

• Demonstrate respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.

• Promote effective working relations and work effectively as part of a department/unit team inter- and intradepartmentally to facilitate the department's/unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives.

• Attend all required safety training programs and demonstrate knowledge of responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job-related hazards.

• Be available for on-call assignments as needed.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Comply with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

Education

• Associate's Degree required.

• Graduate of an approved Nuclear Medicine program that meets requirements for certification as established by State Guidelines.
Experience

• One (1) to three (3) years of experience preferred.
Required Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

• Current CPR Certification.

• Basic computer skills.

• Knowledge of ALARA guidelines.

• Must be able to meet hospital on-call requirements.
Licenses & Certifications

• Must be certified by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (N.M.T.C.B.); OR

• Must be ARRT registered; OR

• Must be certified by the State.

• State license required.
