Summary The United States Attorney's Office (USAO) for the Northern District of West Virginia (NDWV) prosecutes federal offenses, defends the United States Government's interests, and pursues claims on behalf of the government in civil cases. USAO‑NDWV currently has 47 employees and contractors and includes offices located in Wheeling, Clarksburg, Elkins, and Martinsburg, West Virginia. For more information, see Duties Assistant United States Attorneys are expected to work on their own caseload and handle trials and appeals. Responsibilities grow in complexity as training and experience progress. This position focuses on Public Safety, National Security, and Immigration Enforcement. Responsibilities Responsibilities may include managing criminal prosecutions, preparing litigation documents, representing the government in court, and collaborating with support staff and client agencies. Residency Requirements Applicants must reside in the district to which they are appointed or within 25 miles thereof. See 28 U.S.C. § 545 for district‑specific information. Selective Service Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must certify registration with the Selective Service System or prove exemption. See Requirements United States citizenship or national status. Satisfactory pre‑employment adjudication, including fingerprint, credit, tax checks, and drug testing. Registration for Selective Service, if applicable. J.D. degree (or equivalent) and active membership in a U.S. bar by entry on duty date. United States citizenship required. Salary Assistant United States Attorney pay is based on years of professional attorney experience. The basic pay range is $65,563 to $195,100. Relocation Expenses Relocation expenses will not be authorized. Travel Occasional travel may be required within and outside the district.
