Raleigh Radiology Technologist

The position is located at Raleigh Radiology offices, freestanding outpatient imaging centers located in Wake County, NC, and surrounding areas. The primary function of the technologist is to assist in imaging involving IR services. The technologist is responsible for the coordination of patient care for all patients. S/he follows established protocols, policies, procedures, and specific instructions. This position is responsible for coordinating any IR-Vein Clinic procedures, which include scheduling, authorizations, coordinating surgical appointments, as well as assisting in the IR suite as needed for patient care. This position must have the ability to perform medical imaging procedures and must, therefore, be a registered technologist (any modality). This position reports to the Regional Manager of Practice Operations. Work Schedule Monday-Friday/ 3-8 hour days.

Major Duties and Responsibilities Radiography Duties 50% Maintains standards of professional care. Implements policies and procedures for Raleigh Radiology. Assesses patient's condition (physical and psychosocial); prioritizes needs, sets goals, and responds appropriately to meet those needs, which includes discharge teaching. Reports and records pertinent observations and reactions to care rendered. Administers contrast to assigned patients. Assists with specific tests and procedures as needed. Participates in economical utilization of supplies. Assures that equipment is always maintained and available for use. Assists coworkers and physicians in giving care to patients. Establishes and maintains open communication. Utilizes teaching opportunities with patients and other significant individuals. Assists with / or institutes emergency measures for sudden adverse occurrences in patients. Maintains a clean, safe, and well-maintained supplied environment for patients and staff. On a regular, sustained basis, cooperates with other staff members both inside and outside the department in accomplishment of own job duties as well as assisting others in accomplishing theirs; serves as a team player and role model for other employees in the organization, always exhibiting traits of courtesy, caring, helpfulness, and respect; conducts oneself in a service-oriented manner that is attentive, pleasant, cooperative, sensitive, respectful, and kind when dealing with team members, visitors, public, and all employees. Performs other duties and accepts responsibility, as assigned.

Patient Care Activities Obtains initial history and assessment. Completes and documents history sheets. Performs assessment that may include: Vital signs, lab value interpretation History of recent complaint (reason for procedure) Brief pertinent medical history Complete list of medications and dosages Allergies Other pertinent assessment facts such as LMP, tetanus history, weight, etc. Observes and assesses patients on an ongoing basis throughout the patient visit to RR. Assesses patient's physical and psychological state as well as his or her responses to procedure. Assesses and reflects the condition of the patient accurately. Assesses (when appropriate) neurological checks, breath sounds, etc., as instructed by supervising Radiologist or referring MD. Notifies appropriate entity when emergency arises. Starts emergency procedures up to and including BLS Documents assessments Documents and documents patient knowledge and understanding of the procedure and aftercare. Documents in RIS that teaching or after-care instructions were provided. Documents when the referring MD is contacted in RIS and provides written instruction to patient to assure follow-through. Follows up in an appropriate time frame on the condition of patients who suffer adverse reactions. Documents appropriate information on forms used by Raleigh Radiology. Provides report to referring MD after completion of the procedure in Imaging Department in the following manner: Be concise and accurately reflect physiological and psychological facts regarding each patient. Relay reports immediately upon completion of the procedure and/or when the patient is discharged. Initiate direct communication with peers or other appropriate personnel relative to providing continuous quality patient care. Keep physician current on changes in patient's condition.

Education: Graduate from an accredited school of Radiologic Technology, Medical Sonography, or commiserate experience with ARRT registration. Experience: Previous experience in an IR clinic within a busy outpatient office or hospital department is required. Certification: AHA BLS certification is required or must be obtained within the first 90 days of employment. Continuous AHA BLS certification is required. Registered as a Radiologic Technologist with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, RT(R)(ARRT), at the time of hire. Registered as an Interventional Technologist with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists is preferred. Licensure: None

Desired Skills Basic patient care skills, including first aid and BLS. Excellent technical skills in diagnostic radiography are required. Ability to work independently, make sound decisions based on patient condition, and ability to follow directions. Flexibility, dependability, and professionalism are required.
