Senior Impact Director

Position Overview City Year Chicago is hiring a Senior Impact Director (SID) to lead the day‑to‑day Impact operations, manage a portfolio of Impact Directors and Managers, and support the AmeriCorps member experience. Working closely with the Managing Director of Impact, the SID will oversee implementation of all Impact initiatives, foster long‑term sustainability of the site, build strategic relationships with stakeholders, and serve on the Site Leadership Team. Salary range: $85,000 – $95,000 annually . Responsibilities Coach, manage, and develop Impact Directors through weekly team meetings, one‑on‑ones, site visits, performance reviews, and ongoing coaching that identifies professional development and capacity‑building opportunities. Consult on meeting monthly, quarterly, and annual Impact and Service goals and administrative deadlines. Create a strategy for the Impact Leadership Team to facilitate best practice sharing, decision making, and alignment. Manage and consult the Impact Director team regarding AmeriCorps and site compliance, and develop scope and sequence for impact management and leadership development. Lead the Impact Director team in the creation of a scope and sequence to support management and leadership development for Impact Managers. Collaborate with the Senior Service Director to support Impact training design, service quality, and data collection. Track Impact Director portfolios to ensure data, deliverables, team progress, observations, and general service implementation meet end‑of‑year goals. Problem‑solve and determine course of action with Impact Directors to ensure quality day‑to‑day service implementation across all schools. Partner with the Senior Service Director, Senior Impact Operations Director, and Impact Analytics Director to support Impact Directors and Managers in strategy for school deployments. Maintain relationships with school principals to build sustainable and transformational partnerships across all portfolios of schools. Oversee Impact Director relationships with principals and school liaisons and serve as supervisory contact during City Year and/or school crises. Support strategy to secure continuation of school funding allocations and manage work order, purchase order, and invoice processes. Collaborate with the Government Relations team to maintain site adherence to national impact baselines and support AmeriCorps member accommodations and disciplinary actions. Consult with senior leadership and staff to ensure incident and mandated reports are handled appropriately, documentation is submitted on time, and follow‑up is completed. Partner with the Learning & Development team and senior leaders to develop training scope and vision for staff and AmeriCorps members. Own the hiring process for Impact Directors and Managers to keep the department fully staffed throughout the year. Lead the Senior Impact Manager Track, executing on the Impact department’s goals and vision. Co‑own the onboarding process for new and returning staff, ongoing learning and development needs, and collaborate with other City Year departments to ensure site‑wide goals are met. Qualifications Communication – delivers convincing, well‑organized presentations and facilitates initiatives effectively. Team Leadership – leads diverse teams, sets priorities, delegates appropriately, holds staff accountable, and manages conflict. Talent Development – shares leadership opportunities, supports diverse talent, and manages performance plans. Decision Making & Judgment – manages organizational decisions and communicates ownership to stakeholders. Strategic Thinking & Planning – translates strategies into objectives, action plans, and measurable outcomes. External Relationship Development – establishes new partnerships, secures commitments, and builds stakeholder relationships. Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) required. Minimum 5+ years of team management with a strong track record of results. Travel to schools throughout Chicagoland required; reliable transportation or valid driver’s license. Strong performance management skills, including setting high expectations and reviewing outcomes via data. Background in education preferred; commitment to community service and development of young people as leaders. Ability to meet deadlines, plan, and manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment. Tenacity and flexibility in high‑need settings; experience establishing effective team structures and delegating appropriately. Strong track record of building and maintaining productive relationships with key stakeholders. Occasional travel beyond Chicago area may be required.
