Nurse Aide

The Nurse Aide cares for residents in a nursing home or other medical facility under the direction of the nursing and medical staff. After completing one year of unbroken service, newly hired employees in this position will be awarded a monetary Retention Bonus of One Thousand ($1,000) Dollars. Breaks in service shall be understood as time missed from work due to Leaves of Absence, Worker's Compensation and Short Term or Long Term Disability.

Weekly Hours 37.5 Shift Available Shifts: 3:00pm - 11:00pm, 11 pm 7 am, 7:00am-3:00pm

Essential Duties

• Receive daily report and assignments from Charge Nurse.
• Utilize proper Infection Control practices (e.g., standard precautions, hand washing, correct glove use).
• Change sheets and make beds.
• Provide total or assisted care to residents, including:
• Bathing, dressing and grooming:
1. Provide and document morning and evening care, tub, shower or bed bath.
2. Shaving, hair care and nail care.
3. Mouth care / denture care.
4. Provide and document preventative skin care.
• Assist with meals (to ensure adequate intake):
1. Distribute, prepare and collect meal trays.
2. Position resident properly.
3. Assist residents who are unable to feed themselves.
4. Monitor and document food and fluid intake.
5. Provide and document nourishment intake.
6. Provide routine care of feeding tubes.
7. Provide fresh ice water every shift and when needed.
• Assist with toilet needs:
1. Help transfer resident to and from toilet.
2. Provide incontinence care when needed.
3. Provide routine care of urine catheter / urostomy and document same.
4. Provide routine care of colostomy and document same
5. Maintain bowel and bladder training programs and essential documentation required of nurse aide.
6. Maintain bowel record.
• Assist with mobility:
1. Turn and reposition resident (maintain documentation).
2. Move and lift resident (bed, chair, stand).
3. Use mechanical lifts for transfers.
4. Assist with restorative ambulation programs and maintain documentation.
5. Provide assistance for ambulation or transportation to activities, therapy, hairdresser or other appointments.
• Other duties, tasks or requirements:
1. Obtain vital signs.
2. Obtain weight.
3. Answer call bells.
4. Provide post-mortem care.
5. Maintain a neat and clean resident environment.

Qualifications/Preferred Skills, Knowledge & Experience

• High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
• Valid Nurse Aide Certification.
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Accurate and detail oriented with effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team and proceed with objectives
• Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Ability to establish priorities and remain focused on daily operations.

• Ability to interface effectively with all levels of county management.
• Ability to follow protocols to handle and resolve routine problems along set parameters.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
• Additional education towards a nursing degree or related field.
• Six or more months of job-related experience
• Knowledge and understanding of County of Chester policies and procedures.
