The Quality and Safety Program Manager supports the delivery of high-quality, safe, and compliant patient care within the Department of Radiation Oncology by coordinating quality improvement, patient safety, regulatory, and accreditation activities. Working in partnership with the Director of Quality and Safety, this role serves as a key resource for the department's quality management program, leading the administration of quality and safety processes, monitoring compliance with organizational and regulatory standards, and supporting continuous process improvement initiatives.
The role collaborates closely with physicians, nurses, radiation therapists, physicists, dosimetrists, administrators, and network partners to advance a culture of safety, quality, and high reliability. Responsibilities include coordinating quality committees, investigating safety events, analyzing and reporting quality metrics, supporting accreditation and survey readiness, maintaining departmental policies and procedures, developing staff education, and implementing quality initiatives across the department and affiliated network sites. The Quality and Safety Program Manager applies data-driven decision-making, project management, and quality improvement methodologies to identify opportunities for operational excellence, strengthen regulatory compliance, and improve patient outcomes. Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Partner with the Director of Quality and Safety to implement department-wide quality, safety, and performance improvement initiatives aligned with Dana-Farber Radiation Oncology strategic objectives.
- Lead and support quality improvement activities, including identifying process improvement opportunities, managing small-scale projects, coordinating Quality Improvement Committee operations, and ensuring timely follow-up on action items.
- Administer the Radiation Oncology safety reporting program, including investigation of safety events, coordination of root cause analyses, development of corrective actions, and verification of issue resolution.
- Collect, analyze, and present quality and safety data to identify trends, monitor compliance, support leadership decision-making, and drive continuous improvement across the department and network sites.
- Maintain departmental compliance and accreditation readiness, including oversight of policies, procedures, consent documentation, peer review activities, Joint Commission preparedness, and Radiation Oncology accreditation requirements.
- Develop and deliver staff education and communication initiatives related to quality, safety, regulatory standards, and best practices to promote a culture of high reliability and accountability.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary clinical, operational, and network teams to implement and monitor QA/QI programs, support new site development, and ensure consistent adoption of departmental standards across satellite locations.
- Oversee quality-related operational administration, including management of electronic policy systems, onboarding and access coordination, radiation therapist licensure and credentialing tracking, and other activities that support safe, compliant patient care.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated knowledge of healthcare quality, patient safety, regulatory compliance, and accreditation standards, with the ability to apply continuous improvement methodologies to enhance clinical operations.
- Strong analytical and project management skills, including the ability to collect, interpret, and present quality and safety data, manage multiple initiatives, and drive process improvements from planning through implementation.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build collaborative relationships, facilitate multidisciplinary committees, deliver education, and communicate complex information to diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated organizational, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize competing demands, investigate issues, and implement effective corrective actions in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment while managing sensitive, confidential information and ensuring compliance with institutional policies, regulatory requirements, and professional standards.
- Proficiency with quality improvement methodologies, data management systems, and healthcare technology, including experience using electronic reporting, policy management, and clinical information systems to support quality and safety initiatives.
- Commitment to fostering a culture of quality, safety, and continuous learning, including maintaining professional knowledge, supporting staff education, and promoting best practices across multidisciplinary teams.
Minimum Job Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Radiation Therapy. Master’s degree preferred.
Seven (7+) years of experience working in the Radiation Oncology field with clinical and technical expertise required.
Two (2) years of dedicated experience in quality and safety. May include quality improvement (QI) and/or risk management committee experience required.
Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) preferred.
License/Certification/Registration Required: None
