Position Summary
The Business Adjunct Instructor provides high-quality instruction in one or more business disciplines
consistent with the instructor's academic credentials and professional expertise. Assignments may
include business administration, management, marketing, accounting, entrepreneurship, office
technology, or related courses offered within New River CTC's transfer and career-focused business
programs. The instructor supports diverse learners through clear course organization, applied learning,
timely feedback, and consistent assessment of student achievement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Teach assigned business courses in accordance with approved course descriptions, student learning
outcomes, departmental expectations, and College policies.
• Prepare and publish a complete course syllabus and instructional schedule before the course opens to
students.
• Develop organized, current, and accessible instructional materials that connect business theory with
workplace, entrepreneurial, and community applications.
• Meet all scheduled classes and maintain appropriate instructor availability through office hours, email,
telephone, or other approved communication channels.
• Assess student learning using valid and transparent methods; provide constructive feedback; maintain
accurate attendance, grade, and achievement records; and submit midterm and final grades by
established deadlines.
• Use the College learning management system and approved instructional technologies effectively for
course delivery, communication, assessment, and recordkeeping.
• Participate in course, program, and institutional assessment activities, including common assessments
and submission of required results.
• Maintain student confidentiality and comply with FERPA, accessibility requirements, nondiscrimination
standards, copyright requirements, and all applicable College procedures.
• Collaborate professionally with faculty, staff, program leadership, and community or industry partners as
appropriate to the assignment.
• Complete required orientation, training, credentialing, and compliance activities and perform related
duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
• Meet New River CTC faculty credentialing requirements for every assigned course.
• For transfer/general education business courses: a master's degree in the discipline to be taught, or a
master's degree in a related field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline, from
a regionally accredited institution.
• For career and technical business courses: qualifying education, occupational experience, and/or
applicable credentials consistent with the College's faculty credentialing procedure and the assigned
course.
• Demonstrated current knowledge of the business discipline and the ability to communicate concepts
accurately to college students.
• Basic proficiency with email, word processing, presentation software, web-based systems, and
instructional technology.
Preferred Qualifications
• Two or more years of successful college-level teaching or equivalent adult-learning experience.
• Recent professional experience in business, management, marketing, accounting, entrepreneurship,
office administration, or a closely related field.
• Experience teaching online, hybrid, Zoom, IVN, or dual-enrollment courses.
• Experience with learning management systems, outcomes assessment, applied projects, open
educational resources, and accessible course design.
• Evidence of effective work with first-generation students, adult learners, and students with varied
academic preparation.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Thorough and current knowledge of the assigned business discipline.
• Ability to organize instruction around measurable learning outcomes and authentic business
applications.
• Strong written, oral, interpersonal, and student-support communication skills.
• Ability to evaluate student performance fairly, consistently, and promptly.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with academic leadership, faculty, staff, and
external partners.
• Commitment to ethical practice, continuous improvement, inclusive learning, and student success.
Work Schedule and Conditions
• Teaching assignments may be scheduled during the day or evening and may be delivered in person,
online, hybrid, Zoom, Interactive Video Network (IVN), or another approved modality.
• Regular and punctual attendance, reliable access to instructional technology, and timely communication
with students and the College are required.
• The position may require travel among College locations. Reasonable accommodations will be provided

Compensation and Appointment Terms
Compensation is based on the current adjunct faculty salary schedule. Appointments are made on a
semester-by-semester, course-by-course basis and do not guarantee future assignments. All appointments
are subject to funding, enrollment, credential verification, and final approval.
