Biometrics (Fingerprint) Technician - Part Time

Biometric Technician (BT) This is an opportunity to work with the United States Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) in meeting the mission of administering the nation’s lawful immigration system. The Biometric Technician (BT) will support the mission of a government program located in Hauppauge, NY as part of a dynamic team of professionals assisting the USCIS Application Support Center (ASC) operations. The position is a part‑time team member; employees are expected to be available Monday–Friday from 7:45am to 4:15pm (or for certain coverage times as needed). Employees are regularly scheduled for 20hours a week, which may be altered depending on applicant volume and site needs. Primary Responsibilities Complete biometrics registration for applicants seeking legal immigration to the United States. Ensure all who enter the ASC are approved applicants and visitors while providing both interior and exterior crowd control and assisting the staff in enforcing the rules and policies of the ASC. Provide front‑line customer service as representatives of Amentum and on behalf of the United States Government. Deliver the highest level of customer service, working with the public, displaying a cheerful and inviting demeanor, and ensuring applicants are treated with respect. Safeguard areas where Personal Identifiable Information (PII) is vulnerable, such as applicant paperwork, identifications, electronic biometric data, and reports. Perform quality biometrics processing to capture electronic fingerprints, photographs, and signatures within established program‑wide processing times. Screen applicants entering the facility, ensuring they have a valid appointment notice and identification. Utilize crowd control barriers (stanchions or rails) to maintain a safe and organized entry. Visually inspect applicants and their belongings prior to allowing entry. During public health crises, ask applicants about their illness status and decline entry per customer requirements. Conduct periodic facility checks (both interior and exterior) and report concerns to the Site Supervisor. Assist the Site Supervisor and/or government Immigration Service Officer in calling local law enforcement or first responders when necessary. Maintain administrative paperwork including processing time tracking, reconciliation paperwork, visitor control logs, and completion of facility checks. Required Qualifications Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. US citizenship is required. A high school diploma or equivalent. Proficient in spoken and written English. Ability to stand upright on one’s feet for the scheduled shift duration, excluding meals and breaks. Ability to hold and grasp applicant’s hands for quality fingerprints. Ability to work in a high‑paced environment with the public. Typing and basic computer skills. Successful completion of biometrics training and certification within sixty days. Desired Skills Ability to speak a foreign language. Compensation $20.24 per hour.
