Restaurant servers greet guests, take orders and deliver food and drinks to the table. They collaborate with kitchen staff to confirm order accuracy, recommend menu items and process customer payments at the end of a meal. Servers also clear and reset tables between guests to prepare for the next seating.

Common duties include:

• Greeting guests and seating them, or coordinating with the host stand
• Taking food and drink orders and relaying them to the kitchen or bar staff
• Serving food and beverages and returning to guests’ tables during the meal
• Recommending menu items and answering questions about ingredients
• Processing customer payments and handling the bill at the end of the meal
• Clearing and resetting tables between guests
• Restocking service stations with napkins, utensils and condiments
• Following food safety and alcohol service guidelines
