SUMMARY
The Registered Nurse is a professional who assumes responsibility for providing and supervising the delivery of quality patient care within the framework of Anderson Healthcare. The RN uses initiative, independent judgment, and professional skills in utilizing the Nursing Process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the nursing care rendered. The RN is responsible for their own actions and competencies. The RN will apply the Nursing Process while incorporating instruction, teaching, and discharge planning into the care of each patient. The RN fosters the mission statement and initiatives of Anderson Healthcare and Community Hospital Staunton by demonstrating compassion, competence, collaboration, and creativity.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Explains procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation, understanding, and reduce apprehension.
2. Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques.
3. Prepares equipment and assists provider during treatment and examination of patient.
4. Able to initiate and manage a Code C situation.
5. Able to interpret EKG recordings and has the knowledge to monitor and intervene during both stable and life-threatening arrhythmias.
6. Able to recognize, assist, maintain, and troubleshoot a patient requiring ventilatory measures.
7. Maintains valid ACLS certification as required by Community Memorial Hospital.
8. Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of patients and visitors.
9. Observes patient and documents change in condition, adverse reactions, and any required reportable incidents. Notifies the supervisor and provider of change in patient's condition, adverse reaction, or reportable incident.
10. Takes patient's temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal and assess condition of patient as ordered by provider and as needed for change in condition.
11. Responds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol.
12. Accurately documents nursing history and physical assessment for assigned patients.
13. Initiates a patient education plan according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by Physician and/or hospital policy including patient and family instructions.
14. Demonstrates knowledge and principles of PI (performance improvement plan) and application of systematic improvement process.
15. Provides care in the Pain Management environment directed toward meeting both psychosocial and physical needs of the patient. Functions as a resource person and teacher. Proficient in pain management guidelines and medication dosing.
16. Demonstrates professionalism regarding dress code and personal hygiene.
17. Demonstrates a concern to others, takes time to illustrate care and understanding, exemplifies expected behaviors, promotes team concepts, and actively contributes toward conflict resolution.
18. Complies with established hospital policies, procedures, rules, and regulations as they relate to:
a. • Safety/Risk Management
b. • Infection Control
c. • Quality Improvement
d. • Rules and Regulations
e. • Hospital's Corporate Compliance and HIPAA Program
19. Performs job within the prescribed limits of the hospital's Ethics and Compliance program. Recognizes and reports compliance variants to supervisor, compliance officer, or hospital hot line.
20. Responsible for wearing/using appropriate Personal Protective Equipment.
21. Performs within the prescribed limits of the Ethics and Compliance program of Anderson Healthcare and CHS. Detects, observes, and reports compliance variants to supervisor, compliance officer, or hospital hot line.
22. Maintain confidentiality according to the hospital information security policies and confidentiality statement. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing,
- Active Illinois license, ACLS, and BLS. Must have sound knowledge of general nursing theory and practice, familiarity with organization, functions, polices, regulations, and procedures of the nursing service department and Anderson Healthcare. Good oral/written communication, critical thinking, and time management are necessary. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the different age groups of those served in the nursing department.
