Service Technician IV

Position Title Lead Service Technician (5-10 Years Experience) Reports To Field Supervisor or General Manager Position Summary Under minimal supervision, performs diagnostic and service work on residential and/or light commercial HVAC equipment and accessories. Communicates with customers to answer questions, resolve problems, and ensure complete satisfaction. Promotes products and services to customers and works under the direction of the Field Supervisor or General Manager. Key Responsibilities Performs residential and/or light commercial service and maintenance calls with minimal supervision. Analyzes, diagnoses, and resolves customer problems in a courteous, professional, timely, and accurate manner. Performs diagnoses and services on heating, air conditioning, ventilation, and refrigeration equipment and accessories. Inspects equipment and performs diagnostics to identify potential problems and prevent premature or unexpected breakdowns or callbacks. Completes routine maintenance and equipment cleaning as required. Handles delivery and removal of parts and equipment needed to complete service work. Records all required information on a hand‑held device, completes forms and paperwork neatly and accurately, and collects payment from the customer. Communicates with dispatch during duty to provide accurate status reports of activities and availability. Delivers excellent customer service and sustains high levels of customer satisfaction. Promotes products and services to the customer and informs the Sales and Service Coordinator of replacement product sales leads. Ensures company property, vehicles, and tools are used, maintained, and properly accounted for. Represents the company professionally, honestly, and ethically in all business matters and activities. Follows standard procedures and processes, ensures proper vehicle stock, returns defective warranty parts, and replenishes vehicle inventory as needed. Performs additional duties as assigned. Maintains regular, reliable attendance. Health & Safety Roles And Responsibilities Reports unsafe acts, conditions, and hazards to direct supervisor/manager immediately. Reports contraventions of legislation or company policy, procedure, or program immediately. Corrects substandard acts or conditions within area of control. Uses and maintains appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as prescribed. Never removes or renders ineffective safety guards, devices, or clothing prescribed to be in place. Complies with general rules as prescribed by company programs and procedures. Operates devices or equipment as prescribed by company programs and procedures. Participates in safety initiatives, teams, or committees. Reports all injuries or incidents immediately as prescribed. Provides input on developing safety initiatives and plans to eliminate exposures that could cause accidents. Does not perform acts that may endanger safety or well‑being of others. Does not engage in pranks, contests, or rough boisterous behavior. Works in compliance with applicable legislative requirements. Qualifications Associate’s degree, certification in HVAC, or 5+ years of relevant experience. Solid understanding of HVAC systems; prior experience as an installer, maintenance, or service technician required. Must possess all valid licensing or certification required by federal, state, provincial, or local laws for the work area. EPA and safety certifications required. Skilled at servicing heating, air conditioning, and ventilation equipment and accessories. Proficient mechanical aptitude with ability to operate all necessary tools and equipment. Ability to read wiring diagrams and troubleshoot electrical, refrigerant, and duct systems. Proficient at startup, balancing airflow, aligning belts and pulleys, and installing basic duct fittings. Proficient at troubleshooting and repairing electronic air cleaners, refrigeration systems, hot water systems, steam boiler systems, humidifiers, and related equipment. Effective communication skills for resolving customer issues, complaints, or concerns. Time‑management and organizational skills. Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record. Availability to work flexible hours and on‑call shifts as needed. Physical ability to stand, walk, climb ladders and attic stairs, and maneuver in confined spaces (attics, basements, crawl spaces). Capability to walk, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl continuously. Ability to work in varied environmental conditions: hot, cold, outdoor, indoor, dry, humid, slippery surfaces, heights, and congested areas. Capability to safely climb ladders rated for 300 lb load with a 30 lb tool belt. Natural or corrected vision to see and focus for close, distance, and peripheral vision with normal depth perception.
