POSITION: Student Support Coordinator LOCATION: Workman Elementary Plymouth-Canton is seeking to employ culturally responsive educators who will be able to support and sustain equity-focused instruction for all learners. These educators create high achieving learning environments. They identify and systematically apply support that improves achievement for all learners from all racial groups.
JOB GOALS: 1. To participate in the planning and leading of programs to support student academic, social, and personal success.
2. To work with building principal to support student behavior and discipline, social skills development, restorative practices, character education, student safety issues and academic support and extension programs.
3. To support school improvement initiatives, professional learning opportunities for staff and State and Federal Program compliance and reporting (e.g. Title I).
4. To assist in promoting family involvement, program services, program and curriculum support where appropriate.
5. To assist with the evaluations of P-CEA and non-PCEA staff; will assist with district committee work as needed; and will work with teaching staff to implement all district instructional/curricular initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS :
1. Possess (or immediately qualify for) a valid Michigan Administrator certificate. Possess a valid Michigan Teaching certificate.
2. Applicants who also possess a valid Michigan Teaching certificate are preferred.
3. Possess an advanced degree, Masters or higher, from an accredited institution with emphasis in educational leadership, school administration and/or curriculum or other related field.
4. Five years successful teaching and/or administrative experience at the elementary level preferred.
5. Demonstrated building and/or district leadership roles.
6. Demonstrated ability to provide leadership that results in teamwork, collaborative working relationships and shared decision making
7. Knowledge of and ability to effectively address a wide range of social, emotional, and developmental needs of students.
8. Knowledge of various community resources and services.
9. A leadership philosophy that is built around shared decision making.
10. A self-starter with the ability to take on projects and assigned responsibilities with minimal supervision.
11. Knowledge of cultural proficient practices.
12. Knowledge and understanding of culturally responsive teaching strategies including restorative justice practices.
13. Experience working with families to successfully implement behavior plans for students.
14. Demonstrated ability to be a resource for others.
15. Knowledge and experience in curriculum development and instruction.
16. Strong interpersonal and public relations skills.
17. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
18. Demonstrated ability to build good relationships with students, parents, and staff.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Promotes school-wide systems approaches and programs that positively impact student social-emotional success.
2. Provides a broad range of proactive and reactive intervention strategies for students and staff.
3. Implements the school-wide character education program.
4. Collaborates with staff to develop and implement effective, positive techniques for improving student behavior.
5. Consults with parents, staff, students and outside agency personnel regarding mental health, behavioral, social/emotional, educational concerns and means of intervention for student benefit.
6. Assists in the supervision of all professional, paraprofessional, administrative, and classified personnel attached to the school including all resource and service personnel while functioning in the assigned building.
7. Assists in the screening, hiring, training, and assigning of the building staff.
8. Assists in evaluating building staff and makes appropriate employment recommendations.
9. Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary, according to the due process rights of students.
10. Supervises the maintenance of accurate records on the progress and attendance of students.
11. Assists with planning meetings of the staff as necessary for the proper functioning of the school.
12. Evaluates and analyzes both quantitative and qualitative student performance data results to monitor the overall success of the academic intervention programs and recommends changes as needed.
13. Evaluates student performance trends within the 1st and 2nd grading periods and initiates intervention support for identified students in collaboration with parents and counseling.
14. Communicates directly with parents regarding need to student support and prepares regular written communication to parents/guardians and school personnel regarding program offerings and outreach.
15. Provides instructional strategy and support to teachers as they work with struggling students.
16. Assists in induction and orientation of teachers and support staff.
17. Supports the development and implementation of Title I Plans, 31a Plans and/or Section 504 Plans for eligible students.
18. Site leader and assumes responsibility for the school in the absence of the principal.
19. Knowledge of restorative justice practices for intervening with student behavior.
20. Performs other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.
REPORTS TO: Building Principal BEGINNING DATE : 2026/27 school year SALARY RANGE : PCA Salary Schedule: $76,314 - $99,873 Full year contract will be prorated to start date.
