Lab Assistant

Location: Indianapolis, IN

Pay Rate: $18.00/hour

Employment Type: Contingent with potential pathway for hire

Schedule: Day/Evening Shift (EST), Monday - Friday, 10:30 AM - 7:00 PM, with potential Saturday and/or Sunday hours

Why This Role Matters

As a Lab Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting laboratory operations by ensuring specimens are accurately processed, maintained, and prepared for testing. Your work helps laboratory professionals deliver timely and reliable results.

What You'll Do

• Sort, receive, and process incoming specimens

• Centrifuge specimens, print labels, and maintain specimen storage and retrieval processes

• Prepare specimens for testing, including aliquoting, slide preparation, inoculation, and worklist creation

• Perform routine instrument maintenance and quality assurance/quality control activities as assigned

• Resolve pending lists and locate missing samples as needed

• Prepare reagents and media for laboratory testing procedures

• Record and maintain department data, including temperature logs and department files

• Decontaminate work areas and dispose of biohazardous materials according to safety guidelines

• Perform weekly radioactive wipe tests and assist with changing gas cylinders

• Utilize laboratory computer systems and PCs to support daily operations

• Follow all PPE requirements, safety regulations, and training protocols

What We're Looking For

• A current, up-to-date resume

• High school diploma or equivalent (copy of diploma required)

• Medical assistant training is helpful

• Math and science coursework preferred

• Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize work efficiently

• Strong attention to detail and ability to retain learned information

• Professional communication skills and a customer-focused approach

• Ability to pass a color vision test

• Ability to meet compliance requirements
