Job Description

Burlington Recreation and Parks provide a diverse range of programs that enhances the well-being of our residents. Besides just being fun, Burlington's parks, programs and services provide opportunities to improve physical and mental health, develop our youth, focus on the environment and make a positive impact on our city. The bus driver's responsibilities are to provide positive leadership and guidance to the children and be aware of their safety at all times. Work Schedule: Monday Friday, 2:15pm 6:00pm & on occasion Early Release Days, 11:15am 6:00pm (days and times may vary). The program will operate during the traditional school year from August June.

Examples of Duties

Transportation Duties:

• Ensure the safe transport of program participants, staff, and volunteers to and from scheduled locations.
• Assist staff with the safe loading and unloading of children.
• Maintain constant awareness of children's safety while providing positive leadership and guidance.

Counselor Support:

• Step into the role of Afterschool Counselor when not performing transportation-related tasks.
• Organize and implement structured activities and games designed for children aged 514.
• Create a fun and engaging environment while prioritizing participant safety.
• Collaborate with directors and fellow counselors to complete daily housekeeping duties.

Leadership and Engagement:

• Serve as a positive role model and actively engage with participants to foster a supportive atmosphere.
• Ensure adherence to all safety protocols and program guidelines.

• Comprehensive Vehicle Knowledge: Possess full and thorough understanding of the bus operations, ensuring compliance with all driving regulations and prioritizing safety at all times.
• Safety-First Approach: Maintain an unwavering commitment to safe transportation practices for all passengers.
• Dynamic and Energetic Attitude: Exhibit an outgoing, fun, and approachable demeanor, creating a welcoming and engaging environment for children.
• Strong Leadership Skills: Demonstrate the ability to guide and inspire participants, fostering trust and enthusiasm.
• Reliability and Integrity: Be dependable, punctual, and trustworthy, setting a positive example for children and colleagues.
• Passion for Youth Engagement: Show a genuine dedication to working with children and contributing to their development and enjoyment.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Ages: 18 years of age or older
• A Commercial Driver's License (CDL - B with P endorsement)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience with children and CPR & First Aid Certification are desired

The City of Burlington does not offer benefits to part-time positions which require less than 1000 work hours per calendar year.
