Intraoperative Neuromonitoring (IONM) Specialist

The IONM Technologist prepares patients and conducts routine outpatient and inpatient IONM procedures; collects data pertinent to the interpretation of test results and assists medical staff with complex recordings. The IONM Specialist 1 is able to work independently performing their principal duties and responsibilities. The specialist has the ability to monitor basic neurosurgery and orthopedic surgery in which neural structures are at risk, such as aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, brain and spine tumors, and spinal fusions. The technologist demonstrates willingness to learn new skills and advance their intraoperative neuromonitoring and patient care techniques. Function/Duties of Position Patient Preparation. The IONM Technologist documents a comprehensive patient history including neurological symptoms and medications. Procedures. The IONM Technologist performs procedures appropriate to their competence, according to the policy and procedures, including test setup, electrode application, maintaining patient safety and other related duties. Strong, well developed communication skills are essential for this position. Equipment Maintenance. Maintains clean testing equipment, maintains proper sanitization of supplies and surrounding area, and reports equipment malfunctions in writing to our engineer. Miscellaneous. Performs advanced test; prepares reports of recordings for interpretation by physician; edits, types, archives and stores files in accordance to lab policy. The IONM technologist communicates appropriately and effectively with the patient to convey the purpose of the test, and answer questions surrounding the test as well as with higher level personnel. Understands why and how to troubleshoot common artifacts and protocols with a conscious effort to maintain safety standards. Required Qualifications Three years of experience in the neurodiagnostic field which includes one year experience in their specialty modality of practice. Bachelor’s Degree OR Associate’s Degree from accredited Allied Health Neurodiagnostic Education Program (CAAHEP) OR 2 years’ experience as an internal END Tech BLS certification Certification in Neurophysiologic Intraoperative Monitoring (CNIM) from ABRET and/or D.ABNM Job Related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Competencies) Familiarity with in-house monitoring equipment Ability to perform basic spine and basic craniotomy cases Ability to interpret intraoperative EP, EMG, and EEG independently or under indirect supervision. Attention to detail, vigilance, poise and composure in stressful situations Ability to troubleshoot common monitoring problems Clear, concise written documentation and interpersonal communication skills Knowledge of current techniques/regulatory standards Promotes a cooperative working relationship with each other, physicians, other disciplines to foster a harmonious work environment Preferred Qualifications HRC, DCH and KPV.
