Medical Office Clerk - Radiology

About the role Integrated Management Strategies (IMS) seeks an experienced Medical Office Clerk – Radiology to support a government healthcare contract at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, Virginia. The position is full‑time, on‑site in Portsmouth, VA, and involves administrative support for radiology services, patient scheduling, coordination of diagnostic procedures, records management, and front desk operations in compliance with contract requirements and DoD regulations. What you'll do Greets patients and visitors at the clinic front desk and checks them in for patient encounters. Answers main office phone line and screens incoming calls from patients, physicians, and other departments. Schedules medical appointments, determines patient eligibility for services, and manages the radiology appointment computer system. Obtains documentation requested by healthcare providers and maintains patient records. Performs administrative and clerical duties to support medical care and operational support. Creates appointment schedules and templates in the patient appointment computer system. Conducts end‑of‑day processes, resolves delinquent or pending appointments, and maintains accurate records of patients treated and examinations performed. Provides radiology scheduling services, ensuring timely and accurate patient flow through the department. Shares office knowledge on procedures, medical record requirements, and the use of the Radiology Information System. Serves as the initial point of contact for staff and patients in the Radiology Department. Conducts themselves in a professional and courteous manner, displaying sensitivity to patients’ needs. Manages the check‑in process, assists patients with forms, provides educational materials, and coordinates patient flow. Utilizes the MTF automated radiology patient scheduling system and reminds patients of upcoming appointments by telephone. Provides patient images upon request and retrieves/loads x‑ray studies on the Digital Imaging, Network and Picture Archiving Computer System (DINPACS). Receives and responds to inquiries regarding images, dictated reports, and administrative matters, referring medical questions to healthcare providers. Transports patients to and from the Radiology Department and other MTF departments, using proper techniques and protective equipment. Maintains ongoing contact with beneficiaries, staff members, and healthcare providers via telephone, in person, or by email. Qualifications US Citizen. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. High School Diploma or GED. Must pass TB test and pre‑employment drug screening. Subject to background/security investigation. Willingness to comply with DHA vaccination requirements. Maintain good personal hygiene and a professional appearance per policy. Physically capable of normal ambulation and handling medical equipment and patients.
