Director of Ice Hockey

Job Title: Director of the Ice Hockey Program FLSA Classification: Exempt Responsible to: Director of Athletics Last Revised: April 2026 Position Summary The Director of the Ice Hockey Program position is for a candidate with 4+ years of ice hockey coaching experience (head coaching experience preferred). This is a part-time, seasonal position. The season runs from Nov 1 to March 1, with the coaching day typically being 3-7 pm Monday-Friday, and Saturday hours vary. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Communicate a philosophy of amateur athletics, pertinent to his/her particular sport, which is compatible with the mission of the school Direct leadership and development of the entire program Provide an exemplary demeanor in words and deeds, promotes a favorable image of The Haverford School Communicate his/her sports athletic philosophy to both Middle School and Upper School students and parents Provide leadership and instruction in the personal and athletic development of student-athletes at The Haverford School Directly supervise, evaluate, orient, and mentor his/her sports coaching staff at all levels; act as the Director of the program of his/her sport at all levels of the school Recruit mission-appropriate, qualified student-athletes to The Haverford School Study, evaluate, and implement innovations in strategy and equipment Submit to the Director of Athletics budgetary and personnel requests at the end of every season for the next season; solicit input from his/her coaching staff Communicate with media, as necessary Communicate, on behalf of prospective intercollegiate athletes, with college coaches when appropriate Advise prospective intercollegiate athletes about the recruiting process; advise players about the role of being an intercollegiate student-athlete; help talented players secure an opportunity to play at the collegiate level Coordinate awards and special events, i.e., team trips, which are pertinent to his/her sport Communicate with the Director of Athletics to ensure facilities are properly prepared for contests or practices throughout the season and at all levels in his/her sport Communicate and coordinate, through the Director of Athletics, with division heads and all other school administrative offices, i.e., admissions, development, etc., as needed Coordinate and communicate with the Athletic Trainer and the School Nurse as needed in injury-related areas Represent the school at league meetings for his/her sports; educate coaching staff and players on league rules and regulations Possess an understanding of character, culture, and community, and the implementation of those principles in independent schools Perform other related duties, as assigned Minimum Acceptable Qualifications 4+ years of ice hockey coaching experience Excellent organization skills and ability to organize others/predict the needs for the development of staff Outstanding communication skills and proficient with social media Ability to work effectively as part of a team and with other professionals and students Sense of humor, enthusiastic and happy, high ethical professional standards, and multicultural perspective Ability to function in a fast-paced environment Appreciation of single-sex independent school education Commitment to upholding the Essential Qualities + Principles of Community of The Haverford School Commitment to fulfilling the mission of The Haverford School, and an appreciation of single-sex independent school education Sense of humor, enthusiastic and happy; high ethical professional standards, and multicultural perspective Physical Requirements and Work Environment Occasionally lift up to 15 pounds May work in varied extreme outside weather conditions Works in an environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges and a varied and diverse array of contacts #J-18808-Ljbffr Association of Delaware Valley Independent Schools
