Overview Maryville Academy has an opening for an experienced full-time Nurse Manager (RN) in our Children’s Healthcare Center. Maryville Academy, for more than 140 years, is committed to providing protection and guidance to children. Our programs include residential care, mental health services, healthcare and family support services, as well as educational and youth development offerings. Our mission is to help children and families reach their fullest potential by empowering intellectual, spiritual, moral and emotional growth. Our Children’s Healthcare Center provides care for medically fragile and/or technology-dependent children, ages newborn through 21 years. Most children are admitted from a hospital NICU or PICU. The program focuses on patients who no longer require acute care but need significant medical attention related to wound therapy, PICC antibiotics, post-surgical care, NG, GJ tube feedings, and ventilator care. The Center is a “home away from home” for medically fragile children and their families. Nurse Manager (RN) – Responsibilities Supervise staff, visitors, students, and others at the CHC. Apply advanced knowledge in nursing with good judgment and decision making regarding care of medically complex children, safety, and supervision of the CHC unit. Manage the CHC under the supervision of the Director of Nursing, Nurse Practitioner, and Medical Director for the CHC. Follow Maryville’s and CHC Standard Operating Procedures and assist in updating procedures when necessary. Assist in organizing, ordering, and obtaining client medical supplies. Monitor program to ensure clients receive appropriate health care as ordered and prescribed. Promote and monitor client safety. Participate in the selection process for new employees and make recommendations for hire. Assist and coordinate client admissions and discharges. Assist and participate in organizing and presenting trainings and competencies for CHC staff. Assist in orienting new staff when needed. Communicate and assist with coordination of families during visits or teaching on the unit. Provide patient care when needed. Assist in unit activities including education, evaluation, and plans of care. Assist with or coordinate staff meetings on evening and night shift as needed. Assist RNs and CNAs on shift as needed. Promote communication amongst shifts and assist with unit improvements and implementing new endeavors. Assist with monitoring, tracking, and giving TB tests, flu or other vaccines. Assist in monitoring charting, documentation, medication administration, and recording. Coordinate, and possibly accompany, transfer of a sick client to the closest ED, referring hospital, or home hospital. Teach emergency procedures for the CHC and communicate unit activities, equipment needs, staff meetings, and educational needs. Coordinate with Nurse Educators, Child Life Specialist, Medical Case Manager & Unit Coordinator. Facilitate computer changes and improvements and assist in medication administration documentation and implementation of new systems. Maintain the appearance of nursing areas for sanitation, order, and safety. Make rounds to ensure personnel are delivering appropriate care to meet client needs and report problems to the Director of Nursing (DON). Participate in ongoing performance improvement activities. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements Education/Experience: Graduate degree in related field highly preferred, or minimum 7 years of experience in a Nurse Manager or similar position. BSN / Certified Registered Nurse; currently licensed RN in the State of Illinois. CPR certified; PALS certified (or must achieve within 6 months). Experience in pediatric, emergency care, PICU, NICU or extensive hospital nursing required. Supervisor experience preferred. Skills/Knowledge: Skilled in supervising, scheduling, redirecting, and changing daily staffing; knowledgeable of nursing best practices. Physical Demands Required to frequently sit, stand, bend, stoop and walk, sometimes for extended periods. Required to lift/move objects weighing in excess of 40 pounds. Must have visual, hearing, and learning capabilities sufficient to perform the essential functions. Environment and Scheduling Work is performed in designated administrative office settings. May involve contact with youth who may be threatening, aggressive, and/or under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Must be flexible and available to work additional hours when necessary; may be scheduled on weekends and/or holidays. Position requires on-call responsibilities one out of every three weeks, approximately 3:00 pm to 7:00 am. Compensation and Compliance Pay range: $95,000-$100,000 yearly. HIPAA Privacy Training and Sanctions: All employees with access to health information must receive training on the Privacy Rule, with site-specific requirements as needed.
