Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: PCU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: NOC Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 18 months of recent cardiac unit experience License: Valid RN license required Certifications: Experience with telemetry interpretation and passing a telemetry exam Must-Have: Strong cardiac background Ability to independently interpret cardiac rhythms Must pass a Dysrhythmia Exam on the first attempt Experience with common cardiac drips listed below Chest tube experience Rating of "4" on all cardiac skills on the skills checklist Description: This position is for a high-acuity, heavily cardiac-focused PCU unit. Travelers should possess a strong background in cardiology. The typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4 to 1:5. Expect high patient acuity, frequent admissions and discharges, and significant procedural volume. Common cardiac drips required for the position include: Insulin Milrinone Dobutamine Amiodarone Heparin Lasix Nitroglycerin Required experience includes: Telemetry interpretation Successfully passing a telemetry exam Common patient populations include: Heart Failure Atrial Fibrillation Atrial Flutter Supraventricular Tachycardia Ventricular Tachycardia Ventricular Fibrillation Fluid Volume Overload Chest Pain Hypertension Heart Transplant Patients Congenital Heart Disease LVAD Patients Common procedures performed in this unit include: Right & Left Heart Catheterizations TR Band Management Sheath Removal/Management Stent Placement Valve Replacement Procedures STEMI/NSTEMI Care Pacemakers ICDs Cardioversions Ablations Groin Site Management Travelers may float to similar cardiac/PCU units as needed. Travelers will not float to the cardiac monitor tech role. All candidates should be comfortable with the cardiac acuity, telemetry requirements, and procedures listed above before accepting this assignment.
