Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN)

The Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN) provides high-quality care for patients requiring close monitoring, particularly those with cardiac conditions. This position involves collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes during recovery from surgical procedures and managing complex medical conditions.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver patient care for pre/post cardiac procedure patients, including CABGs and vascular procedures.
• Monitor, measure, and document patient vitals and responses to treatment utilizing telemetry monitoring.
• Titrate various IV medications and manage multiple drips as necessary.
• Work effectively within a team structure that includes charge nurses and nurse aides.
• Provide support and education to patients and their families on post-operative care and recovery.

Unit Information

• Unit Type: Stepdown
• Bed Capacity: 24 beds
• Nurse-Patient Ratios: 1:4 during the day, 1:4-5 at night
• Primary Patient Diagnoses: Heart catheterizations, post-op CABGs, NSTEMIs, heart failure, and more.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year of experience in stepdown or cardiac care nursing.
• Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS (NIHSS preferred).
• Experience with pre/post procedural care for cardiac patients, including those with stents, pacemakers, and vascular needs.
• Ability to read telemetry strips is preferred but not required as monitor techs are present.

Work Schedule

• Shift Length: 12 hours.
• Weekly Guarantee: 36 hours.
• Scheduling: Block scheduling and self-scheduling options available.
• Weekend and Holiday Requirements: Every other weekend and participation in holiday rotations.

Additional Information

• Dress Code: Navy Blue scrubs.
• Unit-Specific Orientation: 2-3 shifts of orientation provided.
• Floating Requirements: Potential floating with the permanent staff rotation.
