Occupational Therapy Assistant

Duties of an Occupational Therapist Assistant Uses proven methods to help with patient treatment. Gives necessary treatment to patients who have problems with thinking or moving, following rules and guidelines under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist. Performs different tasks as part of the rehabilitation plan. This can include helping with daily activities, doing exercises, using therapy tools, and providing support devices, under the guidance of an Occupational Therapist. Evaluates how well the patient is doing and talks to the supervising Occupational Therapist to make changes to the treatment plan as needed. Shares information on how effective the treatments are with the supervising Occupational Therapist. Provides advice to patients and their families or caregivers about how to manage cognitive or physical challenges. Communicates clearly with the supervisor and other healthcare team members about the patient’s progress, challenges, and treatment plans. Contributes to the summary of the services provided when the patient is ready to be discharged, following the required guidelines. Keeps clear records of all necessary information about the patient in the electronic system and follows company rules for managing patient files. Accurately logs the time spent on patient treatments as required by regulations. Attends important meetings, such as discussions about patient care and reviews of how services are being used. Participates in required training and meetings organized by the facility or company. Works with the supervising Occupational Therapist to get any necessary equipment or supplies, following guidelines. Can help and support students learning under the guidance of the Occupational Therapist. Follows all required practice rules, ethics, and conduct for Occupational Therapist Assistants. Must have a valid state license when needed. Qualifications At least 1 year of experience as an Occupational Therapy Assistant is required. Experience in long-term care or rehabilitation is needed. A valid COTA license is required. Must accept the posted pay rate; if a higher pay rate is requested, the candidate will not proceed.
