Position Overview Based in our Independence, Ohio, office and distribution center, Faber-Castell USA is seeking an experienced and highly creative Senior Graphic Designer to join our Creativity Center team. This is a hybrid position . The qualified candidate must be able to work on-site in our Independence, Ohio office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday each week, as well as additional days as business needs require . Reporting to the Director of Design, this senior individual-contributor role is responsible for the creative development and execution of packaging, product graphics, illustration, instructions, and marketing assets across multiple brands and product lines. The Senior Graphic Designer works closely with Product Development, Marketing, and Sales to translate product and brand strategies into compelling, consumer-focused creative solutions with strong shelf presence and market appeal. The successful candidate will combine strong graphic design and packaging expertise with graphic illustration capabilities and will independently manage projects from initial concept through final production. They will also contribute experience, judgment, and creative leadership to the broader design team. Responsibilities Develop and execute packaging, product graphics, instructions, marketing materials, and other creative assets across multiple brands and product categories. Create compelling packaging that clearly communicates product features and consumer benefits while delivering strong shelf presence and brand consistency. Create original graphic illustrations and supporting visual assets for packaging, products, instructions, and marketing materials, adapting illustration style to align with the distinct brand essence and target consumer of each product line. Independently develop creative concepts and manage projects from initial direction through final production with a high degree of ownership and accountability. Partner with Product Development, Marketing, and Sales to support new product launches, line extensions, and ongoing brand initiatives. Apply knowledge of children’s products, arts and crafts, design, retail, and consumer trends to inform creative decisions and identify new opportunities. Prepare production-ready artwork and ensure all files meet established print, manufacturing, and technical specifications. Collaborate with vendors, printers, illustrators, photographers, and internal partners as needed to ensure quality, accuracy, and consistency throughout the creative and production process. Create sales and marketing assets, including sell sheets, presentations, signage, digital content, and other consumer- and customer-facing materials. Attend and provide art direction for product and lifestyle photography shoots. Refresh and maintain existing packaging, brand assets, illustrations, and product materials. Participate in design critiques and provide thoughtful guidance and feedback to other members of the creative team. Organize and maintain production files and digital assets. Support packaging mockups, product presentations, and other creative needs as required. Skills and Qualifications Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign. Strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in packaging, branding, consumer-product design, and graphic illustration. Significant experience designing for consumer products and retail environments; experience with children’s products, toys, crafts, activity kits, or related categories is strongly preferred. Strong graphic illustration skills, with the ability to create original, brand-appropriate artwork across a range of visual styles. Demonstrated ability to adapt illustration and graphic styles to different brands, products, age groups, and consumer audiences while maintaining a cohesive brand identity. Thorough understanding of print production, packaging development, prepress requirements, and manufacturing specifications. Demonstrated ability to create packaging that captures attention, communicates product value, and maintains a clean, compelling, and brand-appropriate presentation. Strong awareness of current design, illustration, retail, consumer, and children’s market trends. Proven ability to independently manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication, presentation, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. Highly organized, with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy. Experience writing packaging copy and consumer-facing marketing messages is strongly preferred. Photography, art direction, and photo-retouching experience are a plus. A genuine passion for creativity, arts and crafts, and products that inspire children’s imaginations. Ability to work on-site in Independence, Ohio every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with flexibility to work additional on-site days as business needs require. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a seasoned designer who combines strong creative talent with sound judgment, professional maturity, and the ability to work independently. They understand how to develop consumer-product packaging that stands out at retail, tells a clear product story, and connects with both children and parents. They bring both strong graphic design expertise and the ability to create original illustrations that feel distinctive, contemporary, and authentic to each brand. They are comfortable shifting visual styles to meet the needs of different products and audiences while maintaining a strong understanding of brand identity and commercial objectives. The ideal candidate also brings the experience and perspective to elevate the quality of the creative team through collaboration, feedback, and consistently strong execution. Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, Fine Arts, Illustration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience. Ten or more years of professional graphic design experience, including significant experience in consumer products and packaging design. Demonstrated professional experience creating original graphic illustration for consumer-facing applications.
