Systems / MEP Preconstruction Engineer

Responsibilities Lead various aspects of the MEPF systems (electrical and low voltage) preconstruction process with internal team members, trade partners, designers, engineers, and project stakeholders to deliver a design that is on budget, on schedule, and compliant with program standards. Analyze drawings, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for projects. Drive value‑analysis process by identifying opportunities and sharing insights on how to make the design more cost‑effective, efficient, and constructable. Collect and analyze cost data, identify options, provide recommendations and solutions to budget and design issues as they arise. Conduct document reviews during construction document development to verify compliance with program, design intent, and pace of advancement. Lead stakeholder decision meetings, design progress meetings, value‑analysis sessions, and design conferences related to the MEPF systems. Support the preconstruction lead in developing design deliverables and workflow during the design process, including critical decisions regarding design packaging to support subcontracting and permitting. Collaborate internally with project managers, preconstruction managers, other trade cost estimators, and field leadership to develop overall project cost and schedule. Develop trade partner RFPs and RFQs for best‑value trade partner evaluation and selection. Solicit trade partner and/or vendor quotes and evaluate them for scope, qualifications, risks and opportunities. Lead meetings with trade partners to identify and resolve scope gaps, double‑ups, schedule opportunities/challenges and design options. Perform risk and contract management responsibilities as required on bids. Assist in developing a strategy to achieve small, minority and/or disadvantaged business participation. Maintain a database of estimated and actual costs and lead times. Examine construction sites to account for unusual or challenging conditions in the estimate. Qualifications Undergraduate or graduate degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, a related discipline, or relevant work experience. 4+ years of construction, estimating, and/or cost control related experience; field experience is desirable. Knowledge of Building Connected, Microsoft Excel, and Bluebeam Software. Familiarity with Beck Destini Estimator, Fieldwire, and JOIN is a plus. Physical Requirements Given that a good portion of the day will be spent at a desk, the role requires comfort with prolonged periods of focused work, collaboration, data analysis, and detailed computer work. The role also requires occasional on‑site visits, active movement throughout the office, and travel to construction sites. The employee must be able to lift and move objects up to 10 pounds regularly, and up to 25 pounds on occasion. Work Environment The primary workspace is a professional office with quiet‑to‑moderate noise and light levels. When visiting active construction sites, the employee will be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, louder noise, and moving equipment. Safety procedures and Clark Construction’s safety policies must be followed at all locations. Culture and Expectations This role is demanding and high‑performance. Success requires significant commitment, flexibility to work extended hours during critical project phases or client deadlines, and responsiveness to communications as needed during emergencies. Compensation and Benefits Base salary range: $90,000‑$145,000 (varies based on education, experience, skills, and geographic location).
