Dulce, NM Dulce is in Northern New Mexico within a few miles from the Colorado border and well within view of the Rocky Mountains. The Jicarilla Apache Reservation spans over 870,000 acres of scenic terrain in north central New Mexico. The geography on the reservation ranges from high desert at about 6400 feet in elevation to mountainous areas reaching over 10,600 feet. The town of Dulce is the center of the community and the home of most of the population. The dramatic scenic beauty of the land is unsurpassed, and visitors can enjoy hiking, camping, and trail riding throughout the reservation. Mountain lakes located on the reservation are stocked with several species of trout, and hunting permits are available on a limited basis for mule deer, elk, black bear, mountain lion, and wild turkey. Winter snow provides excellent cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and ice fishing. Several alpine skiing resorts are located within a few hours of Dulce.

About the Facility – Jicarilla Service Unit

The Jicarilla Service Unit, also known as the Jicarilla Apache Health Care Facility, is located in Dulce, New Mexico. The Jicarilla Service Unit serves primarily the member of the Jicarilla Apache Nation with a service population of over 4,000 patients but also serves as other tribes as well. Nzhonachi'idle'ee translated in the Jicarilla Apache language as "a place to get well" and is the tribal name of the clinic. The clinic is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Inc. (AAHC). The Clinic is a Patient-Centered Medical Home and a Certified Dental Home, JSU has dedicated working together with local community programs at all levels to focus on health promotion and disease prevention activities. Dental Assistant - Responsibilities

• The Dental Assistant shall provide appropriate Dental Assisting healthcare services to patients of the Jicarilla Service Unit to include, but not limited to:
• Following all infection control and OSHA protocols in line with the Jicarilla Service Unit Dental Department policy.
• Shall protect all patient health information in line with JSU and HIPAA policies.
• Shall provide dental chairside assistance with all routine dental procedures.
• Shall prepare patients for dental procedure to be performed.
• Provide proper cleaning and disinfection of dental operatories.
• Prepare dental operatory with appropriate instruments and materials.
• Shall update patients' medical history and other forms and medical history in Dentrix.
• Shall update patients' Dentrix notes as directed by dentists.
• Shall position and expose dental radiographs.
• Shall apply topical fluoride for patients as directed by dentists.
• Shall provide toothbrush prophylaxis to pediatric patients as directed by the dentists.
• The Dental Assistant taking alginate dental impressions.
• Shall perform routine dental laboratory procedures – fabricating dental models and custom tray.
• Prepare dental laboratory prescriptions per dentist instructions.
• Shall maintain sundry supplies in dental operatory.
• Perform sterilization of dental instruments.
• Provide patient education – oral hygiene, post-operative wound care, etc.
• Preparing and explaining various dental consent forms to patients.
• Performing minimal dental receptionist duties as needed.
• Measuring patient vital signs.
• A valid Dental Assistant Certification is preferred.
• Follow various directions of completing any other tasks as assigned or requested by dentists and/or Lead Dental Assistant.
• Shall work in collaboration with all dental staff.
• Shall confer with dentists and Lead Dental Assistant on a regular basis, assuring timely and adequate communication of findings or concerns for appropriate and quality patient care.

Dental Assistant - Requirements

• Must be a Registered Dental Assistant.
• Must have an active and current Dental Radiology Certification OR must be actively working toward becoming certified.
