Maintenance Mechanic
Responsible for installation, operation, and maintenance of all heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment. Provides primary maintenance and troubleshooting for all air handlers, boilers, heat exchangers, circulating pumps, chillers, roof top units and all associated controls. Cultivates a working knowledge of pneumatics and direct digital controls. Assists with formulating and maintaining a preventive maintenance program on all HVAC equipment. Assists with developing a knowledge base of all areas of responsibility with other members of the department. In addition, must be capable and available to fulfill all the varied duties normally assigned to Maintenance Mechanics and Certified Maintenance Mechanics.
(50%)* Maintains a preventive maintenance program.
(50%)* Maintains all heating, cooling, and refrigeration equipment.
Other duties and responsibilities:
Maintains pneumatic and direct digital control systems.
Uses proper repair technique with all equipment. If in doubt use equipment service manual or call manufacturer service representative.
Work in a safe manner at all times.
Repair and/or report all unsafe equipment immediately.
Use supplies in a safe and economical manner.
Exhibit initiative, good judgment, dependability, and neatness in your work.
Work in conjunction with all members of the facility staff.

Certifications and Licensures
Credential: HVAC: Licensed Refrigeration Equivalent Experience: Certification is required with 6 months of hire or transfer in accordance with the Environmental Protection Agency 40CFR, Part 82, Subpart F. Knowledge of blueprint reading, mechanical drawing, physics, shop courses, refrigeration, and HVAC components and systems acquired through at least 4 years experience, directly in the HVACR trade OR an Associate's degree in Applied Science HVACR Technology.
Required Education
Education: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent Experience: Certification is required with 6 months of hire or transfer in accordance with the Environmental Protection Agency 40CFR, Part 82, Subpart F. Knowledge of blueprint reading, mechanical drawing, physics, shop courses, refrigeration, and HVAC components and systems acquired through at least 4 years experience, directly in the HVACR trade OR an Associate's degree in Applied Science HVACR Technology.
Experience, Training and Skills:
A minimum of five years progressive work experience demonstrating considerable mechanical ability.
Ability to read blue prints, drawings and schematics, and ability to work as part of a team.
Must possess effective communication skills, initiative, dependability, and neatness in work and personal appearance.
Must have good customer relations skills; be physically and mentally capable of performing all duties of classification.
Written, organizational and interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups to interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
Physical/Mental Requirements and Typical Working Conditions:
Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.
Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.
Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
Overall vision and hearing are necessary with or without assisted device(s).
Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.
Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
Physical Demand Level: Heavy. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 51-100 lbs., frequently (34-66% of the workday) 50 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls and constantly (67-100% of the workday) 20 lbs.
