Principal Electrical Engineer, Genset

Plano, TX | Full-Time | Principal / Technical Leadership
Salary Range: $170,000 – $192,000

Lead the design and delivery of mission-critical, gas engine-based power generation systems (genset) for data center and distributed energy applications — from requirements through commissioning. This is a hands-on technical leadership role with full ownership of the electrical design lifecycle, UL certification, and grid interconnection strategy.

Candidates with 17+ years of experience may be considered for a Distinguished-level role, with compensation adjusted accordingly.

We are seeking a candidate with at least twelve (12) years of electrical engineering experience in industrial power systems, including a minimum of six (6) years working with generator sets or genset-based power generation systems. In this hands-on technical leadership role, you will own the design and delivery of mission-critical gas engine-based power generation solutions for data centers and distributed energy applications. You will oversee the project lifecycle — from requirements gathering through commissioning — including generator systems, controls, protection, and cross-system interfaces. You will have full responsibility for electrical design, UL certification, and grid interconnection strategy, and you will collaborate closely with global engineering teams in Japan and the U.S. to align priorities and ensure effective execution.

Top 3 Must-Haves :

* Extensive hands-on experience with genset-based power systems — generators, paralleling, and protection design
* Strong knowledge of utility interconnection, synchronization, protection coordination, PMS, SCADA, and BESS integration
* Proven experience leading electrical system design end-to-end — requirements through commissioning — for mission- critical/industrial power applications

What You'll Do:

* Own the electrical design of gas engine generator sets end-to-end, from architecture and component selection through final integration
* Guide the certification process by working directly with testing labs and applying UL, NEC, and NFPA standards throughout the design
* Shape how these systems connect to the grid — leading synchronization, coordinating with utilities at the point of interconnection, and ensuring designs meet IEEE 1547 standards
* Take systems from the factory floor to full field operation, running acceptance testing, commissioning, and resolving issues that come up along the way

Qualifications:

* BS in Electrical Engineering (or related field)
* 12+ years in industrial power systems, including 6+ years with genset-based power generation
* Experience with SLDs, protection coordination, and regulatory compliance
* Preferred: Data center/microgrid experience, IEEE 1547, UL2200/891/1558/508A, ETAP/SKM, PE license
