Our mission is simple: move communities to health while maintaining the highest standard of safety, period.Position Overview:Under the guidance and supervision of the Manager, Patient Financial Services, the Intern, PFS will receive training in the fundamental aspects of medical billing and collections. This role offers progressive learning opportunities, focusing on insurance payer requirements, patient advocacy principles, and the performance of demographic and payer research to support the revenue cycle process.Job Summary:Depending upon the PFS team assigned, the Intern will primarily complete the following tasks:Basic working knowledge of HCPCS, CPT, ICD-9/ICD-10 codes and medical terminologyDemonstrate the ability to contact insurance and government agencies to obtain eligibility, to process authorizations or discuss benefits and billing requirementsIdentify appropriate contacts and communicate in a professional manner with all facilities and first responders to obtain demographic information for billingPrepare and submit clean insurance claims to payers electronically and by paper, as requiredMonitor claim status and follow up on unpaid or rejected claims to ensure timely reimbursementFollow up on outstanding insurance and patient account balances to ensure timely reimbursementCommunicate with insurance companies to resolve denied, delayed, or underpaid claimsDocument all collection activity and payer correspondence within the billing systemMaintain a high level of professionalism and customer service when interacting with patients and payersReview medical documentation to assign accurate ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes for diagnoses, procedures, and servicesMaintain up-to-date knowledge of coding changes, payer requirements, billing guidelines and industry compliance regulationsProtect patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations in all billing, collection and coding activitiesComplying with Company HS&E policy and proceduresResponsible for supporting company Safety Management Systems activitiesUnderstand and provide visible support of Destination ZeroOther duties and responsibilities as assignedSchedule/Location:5 & 2Phoenix, AZCompensation:$17.02/hrThe Successful Candidate Will Have:High school diploma or equivalent requiredMust be participating in an education-related internship with a certified program.Must have knowledge of general office procedures using office equipmentMust have general PC skills and some knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word and ExcelMust have prior experience with email and using the webThis position is designated Safety Sensitive for purposes of the Arizona Medical Marijuana Act.Organizational Competencies:Safe.
