Internship Opportunity Be a part of something amazing. The City is pleased to offer a summer internship for a dynamic high school student eager to explore the ins and outs of local government. During this 8‑week program, you will dive into real‑world challenges and projects, gaining hands‑on experience that sets the stage for your professional journey. As an intern, you will tackle diverse tasks, from addressing complex issues to contributing to the City’s diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. Your work will directly benefit the Wilsonville Community. This internship will be 20 hours per week, with a work schedule of Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 8 am–5 pm, with additional evening meetings as needed. Under direct supervision, you will assist with researching, compiling information and preparing materials for staff or committees, present at City Board or Council meetings, and learn about city operations. Positions in the intern classification perform technical, paraprofessional and/or professional duties for City departments. Assignments vary by department and are performed under close supervision. Training and duties support your academic program and prepare you for entry‑level positions. An internship does not guarantee employment as a regular employee. Essential job functions include: Assist administration department by performing research and analysis of a broad spectrum of materials. Draft documents and related memoranda. Prepare information as requested. Participate in internal meetings and attend committee meetings such as the Tourism Promotion Committee, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee and City Council meetings. Meet with various departments to assist with projects. Attend site visits, department meetings, and informational interviews with executive team staff members. Prepare for and present at City Board or Council meetings. Attend and participate in staff meetings and trainings/workshops for increased awareness of programs and current practices. Assist professional staff in phases of more complex work. Participate in various phases of a planned training and evaluation internship program; collaborate closely with assigned mentor(s). Perform duties that help the student learn policy, procedures, guidelines and standards for successful work performance. Complete other tasks as assigned. Qualifications include: Education: Must be enrolled as a High School Junior or Senior for the 2025‑26 or 2026‑27 academic year. Knowledge of English usage, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and punctuation. Knowledge of techniques for providing a high level of customer service to the public and City staff, in person and over the telephone. Knowledge of and ability to use computer applications related to work. Excellent customer service, communication and public relations skills. Ability to comprehend and use English effectively, including producing all communications in a clear, concise manner. Ability to present orally and in writing complex ideas in simple language. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with individuals from diverse groups and backgrounds. Work environment includes: office environment with frequent use of computers; may involve stress of deadlines. Physical requirements: Must possess mobility for office tasks, vision to read materials, hearing and speech to communicate, finger dexterity to use a computer keyboard; ability to lift, carry, push and pull materials up to 10 pounds. Cognitive functions include: fast‑paced office environment, frequent deadlines, interruptions, complex decisions; work independently but reviewed regularly; moderate difficulty with some precedent available; creativity and problem‑solving required.
