Nemours Children's Hospital, Delaware in Wilmington is seeking a Full-Time Molecular Pathologist to join our growing team. The Molecular Pathologist will work within an integrated molecular diagnostics and genomics program supporting the Biobank and Molecular Analysis Program (BMAP) and the Nemours Genomics Laboratory. In addition to providing clinical interpretation of diagnostic assays, the Molecular Pathologist will oversee the development, validation, implementation, and quality management of molecular diagnostic testing, including next-generation sequencing (NGS)-based exome, genome, and targeted panel assays, as well as emerging molecular and genomic technologies. This role is central to establishing compliant, high-quality molecular diagnostic services for pediatric patients while supporting innovative translational research initiatives. Responsibilities include in-house assay design, clinical validation, regulatory compliance, quality program oversight, policy and procedure development, and close collaboration with pathology, clinical, research, and bioinformatics teams in alignment with CAP and CLIA standards. This opportunity offers: Clinical and Diagnostic Leadership Serve as the scientific and clinical lead for molecular pathology and genomics testing within BMAP and the Nemours Genomics Laboratory. Direct clinical validation, implementation, and ongoing quality management of NGS-based assays, including somatic and germline testing. Provide molecular pathology consultation and interpretation in close collaboration with pediatric subspecialists and pathology colleagues. Ensure compliance with CAP, CLIA, New York State requirements if applicable, and institutional regulatory standards. Participate in test utilization review, assay performance monitoring, and laboratory readiness for inspections and accreditation. Assay Development and Innovation Lead the development and validation of in-house NGS panels, including disease-focused, tumor, and pediatric precision medicine applications. Drive expansion into rapid whole-exome sequencing, genome-scale assays, and emerging genomics technologies. Evaluate and implement novel methodologies such as RNA sequencing, long-read sequencing, methylation profiling, spatial approaches, and multi-omics technologies as clinically and scientifically appropriate. Collaborate with bioinformatics teams to ensure robust data analysis, interpretation, and reporting pipelines. Research and Translational Integration Support and develop translational research studies leveraging the institutional biobank and molecular platforms. Partner with clinician-scientists and investigators on investigator-initiated and grant-funded research programs. Contribute to scholarly activity, including publications, presentations, and participation in national or international consortia. Facilitate responsible integration of research assays into clinical workflows when appropriate. Other Non-Essential Functions In partnership with BMAP's Collaborating Research Scientist and Medical Director in mentoring a team of laboratory manager(s) and research laboratory technologists. Promote a culture of scientific rigor, collaboration, quality, and continuous improvement. Work with institutional leadership on strategic planning, budgeting, staffing, and technology acquisition. Contribute to institutional education through teaching, case conferences, and trainee mentorship. Demonstrate expertise in NGS technologies, including assay validation and clinical implementation. Maintain strong working knowledge of CAP and CLIA requirements for molecular and genomics laboratories. Apply familiarity with bioinformatics workflows and variant interpretation frameworks to support clinical and translational genomics programs. Our ideal candidate is board certified or board eligible in Molecular Genetic Pathology (ABP/ABMGG) or equivalent and demonstrates: Expertise in NGS technologies, including assay validation and clinical implementation. Strong working knowledge of CAP/CLIA requirements for molecular and genomics laboratories, Prior experience working in a clinical molecular diagnostics laboratory Experience with whole-exome or genome sequencing, rapid turnaround testing, or pediatric rare disease genomics. Familiarity with bioinformatics workflows and variant interpretation frameworks. Track record of scholarly activity and academic collaboration.
