We are currently looking for a versatile Tunnel Engineer with a background in structural and geotechnical engineering to join our Arlington, VA office. The successful candidate will be part of our tunnel resource group, focusing on underground design and construction projects. Experience in the transportation and water/wastewater sectors would be considered an asset.Responsibilities include:Support the delivery of our existing portfolio of tunnelling projects in the U.S. and CanadaOversight of staff and execution of field investigation programs to collect data for use in design, condition assessments and the preparation of ReportsContribution to detailed analyses for our projects involving tunnels and underground structuresDevelopment of field instrumentation programs and evaluation of collected dataManagement of staff producing design solutions, reports, and contributions to/reviews of specifications and drawingsWriting reports for submission to clients, including design-related technical memoranda and ReportsContribution to and preparation of proposals for submission to clientsManaging and mentoring junior/graduate engineers and supporting their developmentWe invite applications from candidates with the following experience:Bachelor’s in civil, structural or geotechnical engineering is required, and a Masters in a related field is preferredProfessional engineer (PE) license preferred or able to obtain one within a yearAt least 5 years of experience in engineering consultancy (not including education) focusing on tunnel/underground designNCTI Certified is preferredProficient in the use of structural software: STRAND7, SAP, STAAD or equivalentProficient in the use of geotechnical software, this may include Plaxis, GeoStudio packages/Slide, Rocscience packages, geotechnical data management (GINT/Holebase). A working knowledge of BIM tools (Bentley/Autodesk) would also be advantageousDemonstratable record in design with experience in geotechnical engineering, ground characterization for soil and rock and a working knowledge of concrete, steel and foundation designInterest in underground design and construction for the transport, water or waste water Sectors and multidisciplinary workingStrong references from past managers or clientsOur teams are comprised of bright and enthusiastic people who wish to make a difference to the world that we live in. The expected salary for this position is $91,000 - $111,000Individual pay is determined based on several factors such as work location, education, experience, and unique skills.
