Production Operator- Grand Haven, MIPay Rate: $23.70Shift: 2nd and 3rd - Overtime as neededJob Function – Requirements – Success FactorsThe Production Operator physically manufactures quality, powder coatings in support of PPG Industries, as a leader in the powder coatings market. The incumbent is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the facility's manufacturing equipment and the quality of the product at every step of the manufacturing stage while meeting all safety requirements.Requires: Successful completion of the employment selection process, and experience in a manufacturing environment. Must be able to operate a variety of industrial production related equipment, possess good math skills and mechanical ability, be flexible and willing to rotate work assignments readily, and be capable of forklift operation certification. High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.Strong oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills are essential. Teamwork, communication, and attention to detail are also essential.Duties and ResponsibilitiesOperators will be assigned to any of the four areas below.- PreassemblyResponsible for the weighing of raw material components according to a specific formula on a batch ticket. Raw materials must be retrieved from the storage area, hand weighed and then placed on a pallet after being clearly marked with the appropriate PPG Champ code. Pallets will then be moved to a staging area for processing.- MixingTends powder coating mixing machines that mixes the raw material. Ensures weigh out ingredients matches batch ticket and that raw materials have been weighed correctly. Loads the raw material mixes into appropriate container and mixes per normal operating procedures or instructions on batch ticket. Once mix has been completed, cleans mixers and states pre-mix for next operation. Completes information on machine activity on log sheets.- ExtrusionOperates and cleans the extruder machinery to product specifications and extruder parameters. Reviews production order to ascertain product data such as product type, quantities and specifications of products. Sets the extruder parameters such % torque, feed rate and extrusion temperature according to written instructions. Monitors equipment to ensure that all parameters stay within specification. Reports machine failure to supervisor or manager. Completes information on machine activity on log sheets.- Grinding or MillingOperates milling equipment to grind product to customer specification by setting operating conditions per written instructions. Packages and labels finished product; disassembles, cleans and assembles mills and vibratory equipment, completes logs and other documentation timely and accurately. Maintains quality by obtaining samples at specified intervals during batch processing. Cleans and performs preventative maintenance on equipment between runs.QualityOperators must participate in the PPG Quality Process.SafetyWorks in a safe and effective manner to ensure personal safety and product quality. Must be current on all aspects of safety as detailed in the SOP's.Production Operators are also required to perform a variety of other general tasks related to the production of powder coating products as directed by supervision. (ie., housekeeping, attend team meetings as directed by the Team Facilitator or Management and/or other duties as assigned.)Contact with Others:Job requires routine contact with others to give or get information (ie., Technical Personnel, Maintenance, Production Operators, Staff, Visitors).Work Environment:Works in manufacturing, warehouse and/or lab areas. Incumbent will be required to lift and carry up to 55 lbs and move up to 320 lb drums with mechanical assistance. Stair and ladder climbing, standing for long periods of time, stooping and pulling occurs. Wearing approved safety equipment; including, safety glasses with side shields, steel- toed shoes, uniform, hard hat/bump cap, gloves, hearing protection and dust mask or respirator (when required) is a must.
