Registered Nurse - Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Texas, Waco 07/13/2026 Contract Active Job Description: Jo b Summary The Registered Nurse (RN) - Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides specialized nursing care to critically ill, premature, and medically complex newborn infants. This role is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care while collaborating with neonatologists, physicians, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver exceptional neonatal care. The NICU RN plays a vital role in supporting infants and their families throughout the hospitalization process while ensuring the highest standards of patient safety and clinical excellence. Key Responsibilities Provide comprehensive nursing care to premature, critically ill, and medically fragile newborns in the NICU. Assess, monitor, and document infants' physical condition, vital signs, and responses to treatment. Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans based on patient needs. Administer medications, intravenous therapies, blood products, and specialized neonatal treatments as prescribed. Operate and monitor neonatal equipment, including ventilators, incubators, cardiac monitors, and infusion pumps. Collaborate with neonatologists, physicians, respiratory therapists, and multidisciplinary care teams to develop and coordinate treatment plans. Assist with neonatal procedures and emergency interventions as required. Educate and support parents and family members regarding infant care, treatment plans, and discharge instructions. Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with regulatory and organizational requirements. Ensure compliance with infection prevention, patient safety, and quality care standards. Participate in patient care rounds, care conferences, and quality improvement initiatives. Respond effectively to neonatal emergencies and changes in patient condition. R equired Qualifications Graduate of an accredited Nursing program. Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state. Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity neonatal care environment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to provide compassionate care and support to patients and families. Proficiency in electronic medical record (EMR) systems and clinical documentation. Preferred Qualifications Previous NICU, neonatal, pediatric intensive care, labor and delivery, or critical care nursing experience. Experience caring for premature and critically ill newborns. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. Experience in Level II, III, or IV NICU settings. Knowledge of neonatal assessment, respiratory support, and developmental care practices. Familiarity with neonatal quality and patient safety initiatives. Certifications C urrent Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification, if required by facility policy. Specialty neonatal certifications are preferred. Any additional certifications required by state regulations or facility policies. Education Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution. BSN preferred. Experience Experience in neonatal, pediatric, critical care, or acute care nursing environments is highly desirable.
