Notable investments include Biocatch, Blackbird Labs, Galileo, Melio, Menlo Security, Plaid, Stripe, Toast and Wonder among others.Amex Ventures is seeking a highly motivated individual to help develop investment theses, source and execute investments for the Fintech & Commerce team. The Fintech & Commerce team invests in companies developing innovative products and capabilities that have the potential to enhance our consumer card membership value proposition. This includes start-ups innovating around key passion points of our customers such as travel, dining, & entertainment, as well as emerging technology & trends reshaping our customers’ lives.ResponsibilitiesIn this exciting opportunity, the Investment Manager will be an integral part of Amex Ventures’ Fintech & Commerce team, playing a key role in the day-to-day sourcing, evaluation and execution of investment opportunities including strategic analysis, due diligence, valuation, deal structuring, and negotiations. The Investment Manager will also drive strategic engagement between American Express and its portfolio companies.Responsibilities:Lead investments across the end-to-end venture investment lifecycle, including sourcing, deal evaluation, transaction execution, and portfolio company engagementConduct market and industry analysis to support investment thesis development in strategic focus areasMaintain strong relationships with the venture capital and startup ecosystem to proactively identify and qualify relevant companiesWork closely with cross-functional stakeholders across American Express to drive strategic value through startup partnerships and accelerate innovation across the enterpriseManage due diligence and investment decision-making process including strategic and financial analysis, legal negotiations, and management of deal execution workstreamsMonitor portfolio company performance on an ongoing basis, working with internal and external stakeholders to engage with founders and add strategic valueQualifications5+ years of prior professional experience in a finance, strategy, or tech role; examples may include VC or PE investing, investment banking, management consulting, or a high-impact role at a technology company (product management, business operations, strategic finance, etc.)Ability to operate autonomously in a dynamic and fast-paced environmentWell-developed strategic thinking capabilities to identify and assess key investment considerations and make recommendations on a first-principles basisExcellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of driving effective collaboration across internal and external stakeholdersAnalytical mindset and deep understanding of finance and valuation fundamentalsStrong interest in new technologies, particularly in fintech & commerce, and motivation to engage with the startup ecosystemBachelor’s degree requiredEmployment eligibility to work with American Express in the United States is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions.
