Owl Tree in Durham, Maine is seeking an early childhood assistant for 2026-2027, Sept-June.
Owl Tree is a unique forest-based early childhood program for ages 2.5 to 6.5.
Our initiative was founded with the guidance of international educator/lecturer and multi book author, Helle Heckmann. Since its founding, Owl Tree has been led by highly qualified, certified and experienced Waldorf educators.
The assistant is asked to support the lead teacher in a daily class rhythm, fostering the children in their play and development with warmth and care, assisting with meal preparations as necessary, assisting with handwork and crafts, supporting cleaning the Owl Tree yurt at the end of the day and being present with organized drop-offs and pick-up times. The assistant must be comfortable being outside in all kinds of Maine weather and have a love of the outdoors.
Experience with Waldorf education and the work of Helle Heckmann, a bonus, but training and education will be provided, as needed, for the right applicant.
This would be a wonderful position for someone who wished to begin their training in an early childhood forest classroom or a teacher-in training wishing to gain hands on experience under the guidance of experienced Waldorf teaching mentors in a safe, loving environment.
Owl Tree runs M-Th, 9a-3p. Hourly pay $22-$30/hr based on experience.
