The Tanner, AL location is an integrated mill that manufactures high‑quality premium and ultra‑premium forged bar and billet products from melt to ship. Primary Responsibilities Perform standard tasks related to the preparation of steel, alloy and slag specimens for analysis. Inspect test specimens for quality criteria, reject poor specimens, and request replacements from internal customers. Prepare specimens using abrasive saws, sanders, grinders, and drill presses. Conduct routine preventative maintenance, including sludge removal, dust collection cleaning, drill bit sharpening and replacement of worn abrasives. Register new test specimens in the electronic laboratory information management system (LIMS). Accurately perform analysis of furnace and product specimens using C/S combustion and N/O fusion instruments under direction. Maintain instruments according to SOP intervals. Review test data and apply corrections based on certified reference materials or statistical methods. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned. Requirements High school diploma (required); additional relevant experience preferred. Associate Degree in Chemistry or two years in a physical science curriculum preferred. Entry‑level position; with training expected to fully qualify within six months. Skills and Knowledge Basic technical skills to complete assigned work. Knowledge of chemical lab testing procedures, C/S and N/O equipment, instrument software and statistical analysis methodology. Experience with LIMS system. Routine problem solving using standard procedures. Ability to respond to standard requests from internal or external customers. Time‑management and task prioritization in a production environment. Ability to work independently and within a team to achieve goals. Computer proficiency with LIMS and instrument software. Mechanical skills to perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on lab equipment. Physical ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
