Responsibilities:

The** Level 3 CNC Mill & Lathe Operator** independently sets up, operates, adjusts, and troubleshoots CNC milling and turning machines to manufacture complex, close-tolerance components. This role ensures parts are produced in accordance with engineering prints, specifications, CNC programs, setup instructions, and established quality requirements. The position calls for advanced capability in both milling and turning, strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, sound technical decision-making, and the ability to complete complex machining work with minimal oversight.

• Set up and run CNC mills and CNC lathes independently to manufacture precision parts that meet defined production and quality requirements.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T callouts, work orders, setup documentation, tooling specifications, and machining instructions.
• Choose, install, and confirm the correct cutting tools, inserts, fixtures, jaws, workholding equipment, and materials for milling and turning applications.
• Establish and validate tool lengths, work offsets, tool offsets, wear offsets, and other required machine settings.
• Review CNC programs and make appropriate edits or adjustments to support dimensional accuracy, machining efficiency, and routine process needs.
• Complete complex setups and machine changeovers involving multiple operations, tight tolerances, advanced workholding methods, and a range of material types.
• Determine and adjust feeds, speeds, cutting parameters, tooling, and machining conditions as needed for each operation.
• Conduct first-piece, in-process, and final inspections using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, indicators, height gauges, bore gauges, thread gauges, and other inspection devices.
• Evaluate dimensional discrepancies and quality concerns, then independently diagnose and resolve machining, tooling, fixturing, programming, and process-related issues.
• Observe tool condition and machine performance, making appropriate decisions regarding tool replacement, offset changes, or process corrections.
• Recognize unusual machine conditions and partner with maintenance, engineering, quality, or supervision when additional support is needed.
• Confirm finished components meet all dimensional, cosmetic, and quality standards before moving them to the next production operation.
• Support machining-process improvements focused on productivity, cycle-time reduction, tooling efficiency, quality improvement, and material utilization.
• Assist with the development and refinement of setup instructions, tooling approaches, workholding methods, and machining processes.
• Provide technical coaching and hands-on support to Level 1 and Level 2 CNC Operators as requested.
• Complete all required production, setup, inspection, and related documentation accurately and on time.
• Comply with all company safety rules, quality systems, work instructions, and applicable manufacturing standards.
• Perform other related responsibilities as assigned.

**Location: **Michigan City, IN

**Schedule/Shift Details: **First shift, 4 10-hour shifts, Monday-Thursday with a 5AM start time.

• Overtime as needed.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• 4-7+ years of experience independently setting up and operating both CNC milling and CNC turning equipment in a manufacturing setting.
• Advanced understanding of CNC milling and turning operations, including tooling, workholding, setup practices, and machining methods.
• Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings, including GD&T requirements and close-tolerance specifications.
• Demonstrated skill using precision measurement and inspection equipment.
• Working knowledge of CNC programming, with the ability to make necessary program edits and adjustments.
• Proven ability to independently troubleshoot machining, tooling, dimensional, and process-related problems.
• Working knowledge of feeds, speeds, cutting conditions, insert selection, and tooling applications.
• Ability to complete complex setups and changeovers with limited supervision.
• Advanced mechanical aptitude and CNC machining capability.
• Exceptional attention to detail, dimensional accuracy, and product quality.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to organize, prioritize, and complete work independently while meeting production demands.
• Ability to apply sound technical judgment within established processes and procedures.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to provide technical assistance and guidance to less-experienced CNC operators.
