Applied AI/ML Lead - Payments

Salary: $61,000 - 101,000 per year Requirements:

• We expect formal training or certification in applied artificial intelligence and machine learning, along with 5+ years of practical experience.
• We require 5+ years of experience building and delivering machine learning or natural language processing solutions with measurable production impact.
• We need strong programming skills in Python and experience with modern ML frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• We look for hands-on expertise in document extraction and NLP methods, including text classification and information extraction.
• We require experience building data-driven solutions with SQL and distributed processing tools such as Spark or similar platforms.
• We expect experience deploying and running machine learning services or pipelines in a cloud environment such as Amazon Web Services or equivalent.
• We need the ability to turn ambiguous business challenges into structured machine learning plans covering data strategy, evaluation, rollout, and operations.
• We value strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to explain technical tradeoffs to both technical and non-technical partners.
• Preferred experience includes optical character recognition and document understanding for scanned or semi-structured documents.
• Preferred experience includes transformer-based NLP architectures and techniques for optimization and efficient inference.
• Preferred experience includes machine learning operations practices and tooling such as model registries, CI/CD for ML, and observability.
• Preferred experience includes real-time or event-driven architectures that support low-latency inference and feature generation.
• Preferred experience includes applying document extraction or NLP in payments, financial services, or regulated environments.

• We own end-to-end delivery of document extraction and natural language processing solutions, from opportunity sizing and requirements through production rollout and iterative improvement.
• We design scalable model pipelines for document ingestion, text extraction, classification, and ranking while balancing accuracy, latency, throughput, and cost.
• We develop and refine NLP algorithms and model approaches to identify entities, relationships, and signals in unstructured text and documents.
• We define evaluation approaches and success measures, including offline validation, error analysis, robustness testing, and controlled online measurement where appropriate.
• We establish model lifecycle practices such as reproducibility, testing, monitoring, drift detection, and incident response to support reliable production performance.
• We partner with risk and compliance stakeholders to ensure proper documentation, controls, explainability expectations, and audit-ready processes.
• We drive technical decisions through design reviews, code and model reviews, and practical standards that improve quality and delivery speed.
• We communicate tradeoffs and recommendations to senior stakeholders, translating model behavior into clear business impact.
