For decades, our financial track record has been stellar — a testament to our culture and validation of our reputation as an excellent underwriting company.Position PurposeWe are seeking a Claim Director/Team Lead-Major Case Unit to oversee the handling of complex, high-exposure Personal Umbrella Liability claims including auto, premises, and personal liability, with policy limits typically ranging from $1 to $5 million. This role requires a strategic thinker with a proven ability to manage complex claim investigations and evaluations while ensuring optimal outcomes for our clients.Principal Duties & ResponsibilitiesTeam Leadership: Develop and implement training of Technical Claim Managers and Technical Claim Directors. Claims Management: Oversee the handling of complex, high-exposure Personal Umbrella Liability claims across the United States, emphasizing detailed investigation, evaluation, and monitoring of primary carrier activities to achieve the best results.Coverage Analysis: Investigate and analyze complex coverage issues, providing clear and detailed coverage letters as necessary.Investigation & Evaluation: Conduct timely and comprehensive investigations into liability and damages to recognize exposures early.Claims Resolution: Focus on effective resolution strategies, including timely liability investigations, damage assessments, and reserve setting.Litigation Management: Proactively and strategically manage litigation around the country, including selecting and managing outside counsel and implementing effective litigation strategies in disputed claims.Best Practices: Ensure adherence to RLI's Best Practices in all claims handling activities.Education & ExperienceEducation: Typically requires a bachelor’s degree. A Juris Doctorate degree with relevant defense litigation experience would be beneficial but is not required.Experience: 10+ years of relevant legal or technical claims experience, with a strong background in handling complex, high-exposure third-party liability claims on a primary/excess basis. Significant personal or commercial auto experience would be beneficial.State Knowledge: Significant experience with policy limit demands in Florida, Texas, and California.Independence: Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.Collaboration: Proven ability to work effectively with primary carriers and defense counsel, with in-depth knowledge of umbrella/excess handling and management of outside counsel.Legal Acumen: Extensive knowledge of case law, statutes, and procedures impacting liability claims in Florida, California, New York, and Texas, among others.Knowledge, Skills, & CompetenciesAbility to manage and develop a team of highly skilled claim professionals to ensure increased performance.Strong analytical skills to navigate complex claim processes and develop effective solutions.Innovative mindset with the ability to drive improvements within the claims department.Excellent communication skills to convey findings and recommendations clearly to internal and external stakeholders.Compensation OverviewThe base salary range for the position is listed below. Please note that the base salary is only one component of our robust total rewards package at RLI. The salary offered will take into account a number of factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, experience, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications/credentials, talent availability & specialization, as well as business needs.
